I forgot to add that the shooter was having gay sex when they pulled the trigger and shouted "Free Palestine" as they fled the scene.

 

It's subterfuge. They actually know who the guy is (they hired him, after all) and are just throwing off the public by pretending they need the public's help to find him.

Some varmint shooters maintain that they do, and I am willing to believe them. They aren't likely to be a danger to much of anybody. Varmint aren't livestock, are agile targets and often multiple. I have no idea how much damage they actually do, and being aware that I am ignorant on the subject, am willing to accept that people faced with a problem may know better than I.

On the other side, the argument that there are too many guns already in circulation for regulation to impact is circular. Guns, though durable, still have a half-life, and the diminishing of their numbers begins with a single gun. They get lost, wear out, are placed in evidence lockers and museums and so on just like anything else. Make fewer, sell fewer, buy back more and eventually the numbers will decline-- we just need to start somewhere.

Again, you don't need an assault rifle to control varmints. They are rarely in groups large enough to require rapid fire and will scatter as soon as the first round is fired. Traps and poisons are a much better method to control varmints. Also, if you are hunting them, airguns are a better option as you don't require a large caliber to kill them and they are significantly more quiet so the varmint don't scatter as soon as the first round is fired.

I guess some conspiracy theories could have a micro-thread of plausibility.

But the conspiracy that a shooter would need a signal is so dumb that it insults the dumb.

 

So you say. I don't honestly know, and do not know everybody's situation in every circumstance-- and it doesn't matter anyway. If it makes some people feel more effective at it, those are not the individual guns being used in mass shootings anyway, just the type-- if we restrict them to rural farmland in Oklahoma and keep them out of hotels in Vegas and subways in Oakland and Ann Morrison Park in Boise, we'll have done something effective without slipping down any slopes...
