Thing is, contrary to the FF hopes and expectations, a "well regulated militia" is no longer "necessary to the security of a free state." Contrary to their expectations and fears, we have a very powerful and usually highly professional and usually highly ethical military for that security. Though there have been some periods of shakiness on the ethics part. But now, really within the last 30--40 years or so, we have developed really ill-regulated militias which are among the greatest threats to that security. So now it all hangs on the legal definition of "infringed..."
I think you'll find that Section 8 of the Constitution, although not specifically mentioning the Swiss, implies that their knives are very similar to our blunderbuss'.
I think it's the libs among us that should be thinking of joining a well regulated militia given the current clampdown on democracy.
Kingston NY had a gun amnesty. Locals took advantage to get rid of their rusty and inoperable weapons. The 47 weapons surrendered included 1 semi-automatic weapon and 15 handguns, which I guess is better than nothing. The rest were rifles and rust.
Second Amendment is not about guns -- it's about anti-Blackness, a new book argues - CNN Very interesting and worth the read.

Interesting tweet thread on just how bonkers that California judge’s decision to overturn the assault weapons is. Benitez insists that "citizen militias are not irrelevant," citing the experiences of ... Fidel Castro, Ho Chi Minh, and the Taliban. https://t.co/e7ArsDmeim pic.twitter.com/dwMD0JoOQi— Mark Joseph Stern (@mjs_DC) June 7, 2021
I suppose it depends on what one is trying to defend against. If you're trying to defend against MAGA brownshirts, it's a reasonable choice. I do think people should be able to privately own daisy cutters though...as part of the well regulated militia. To own one, it'd have to be well regulated - which would mean being a member of our well regulated militia in the National Guard. From there, actually operating it would have to come under the guidance and regulation of the NG.
Using a weapon for home defense that will shoot through your house, your neighbors house, and probably through a couple of houses down the street isn’t a reasonable choice.
Use frangible ammo. The platform doesn't dictate the caliber either - most of them use fairly light rounds that don't have any special penetration.
I somehow tuned in to a KC news bulletin which reported 4 dead in 4 separate shootings and 2 dead in separate shootings. Not sure if the second was a subset of, or addition to, the first. Also, a bad person driving a car killed a good person driving a car and someone was shot dead over a video game.
The good news is that they had terrible aim: Authorities say a shouting match led to dozens of gunshots and one person wounded at a mall southeast of Atlanta. https://t.co/JfPUIDOHuA— WSVN 7 News (@wsvn) June 10, 2021
Lulz... Rep Madison Cawthorn: "If anybody ever wants to say 'oh, well you know what, citizens with a few small arms fire would never be able to stop the federal government' - I absolutely disagree. I have heard that talking point from a number of right wingers. It must be on the official post-its. Up there with "'critical race theory' is Marxism" and "cancel culture..."
Defending the right of their voters to threaten the rest of us with armed violence is the endgame. Armed "election monitors" hanging around polling places for the purpose of intimidating Democratic voters will be a feature, not a bug, of future elections.
The US 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has blocked a federal judge's controversial ruling that overturned California's longtime ban on assault weapons, in which he likened the AR-15 to a Swiss Army knife. https://t.co/CoocplJRsk— CNN (@CNN) June 22, 2021
But it was such a rational and well-reasoned ruling! "Like the Swiss Army Knife, the popular AR-15 rifle is a perfect combination of home defense weapon and homeland defense equipment," Benitez said in the ruling. Who can argue with such peerless logic?
pretty much. As an example, these are all legal in CA: Virtually identical to any other AR, they just have a flange appended to the back of their pistol grip, thus making them "rifles" instead of "assault rifles".
