"We're gonna live in Sanctuary City Go ahead and give in, Sanctuary City Like modern men, modern girls We're gonna live in the modern world Don't worry about the rain Don't worry about the thunder Honey Sanctuary City's got everything covered." (Tom Petty, adapted)
We built this city We built this city Built this city on guns and Skooooal (no apologies to the horrific Starship)
They do not make Federal goverment (or state government) laws void, it just means that local government officials will not enforce those laws. https://reason.com/2019/11/21/americas-second-amendment-sanctuary-movement-is-alive-and-well/ Now Trump and republicans have been trying to get Liberal cities to cooperate with federal immigration laws by threatening to take away their federal funding (and large democratic cities are suing back), so in theory this would also be done by Democratic governments against 2A sanctuary cities/counties (and they would then sue back).
Maybe pass a law that takes away a local government's immunity from lawsuits if they don't enforce firearm laws. If victims could sue the government, the lawsuits would pile up pretty fast. No idea if this is legal, of course.
I mean if the gun does it on it's own, I would imagine lots of people would be interested on how that happened, and would suspect the gun would be taken to some federal closed area for investigation.
They did at least have White Rabbit, Runaway and Count On Me (or some of them did- that band changed names about 8 times and I don't know who stayed and who left). And then Balin had (recorded) Hearts, which was a very good song.
Well, that depends. It was a version of Starship that released Runaway and Count on Me. I know that for sure, 'cause I have the vinyl. And Miracles. It wasn't until Sarah and We Built This City that they began to suck.
White Rabbit started life as a Great Society song-- Grace brought it with when she joined the Airplane. Count On Me is a Jesse Barish song which I think David Freiberg brought with him from Quicksilver when he joined Starship as bassist-- they had been borrowing Lesh or Casady up to then... Hearts is also by Barish. Miracles is Marty Balin. Starship would tell you themselves that the band went sour when Rob Thomas came over from Elvin Bishop's band to take over the male lead, and was the only one with any money and credit, and basically took over the band. It took the others a while to figure our a way to get out from under contractually and financially-- and that's the time frame "We Built This City" is from. But in the pre-Thomas era of Starship, the principal songwriters were Slick/Kantner, Balin, and Poppa John Creach. "Red Octopus" is a great album, and there were some other good songs. There was a reason 300,000 of us stood in the rain at the softball fields in Central Park to hear them in '77. That's the day China Slick wrote "Please Don't Let It Rain" for them.
And he'd be right. The first three albums are excellent. But then, Jack, Jorma, and Papa John were the three folks in JA who had some sort of self-discipline...
Not sure. I'm new to this school so don't have a good feeling for the student body overall. That said, there is not a good thread of student/teacher communication throughout the school. I remember a situation when I was in high school that happened over night, and by the start of 3rd period, the entire school knew of the situation all at a time when communication was far more word-of-mouth. So since our school/city was specifically mentioned, I am surprised more was not known and acted upon by the students.
One is about overreach by the federal government and the other is about redneck white people wanting to make sure everyone has a gun to fight off everyone darker than themselves.
Yuck. "White Rabbit" was not Starship. And that wasn't one of Jefferson Airplane's better songs, anyway.
I still buy physical copies of recordings. Which means I still have control over what I hear. So I hadn't even been aware that anyone's covering it. Which I'm glad of.
I am simultaneously about 100 yards from a place where 12 died in a mass shooting, and about 100 yards from a bunch of male inadequacy petitioning the city council to make VB a gun sanctuary.
