Okay Crazy Jim Taylor vs Panic FC Jim uses Liverpool, but not because he supports them - he just has them. I use West Ham and we play a very similar style. Both using C6 bases. Around 6 minutes into our ten minute half I string a couple of passes together, but my final ball leaves me with a 2/3 of the pitch shot but with my new found accuracy I hit the ball and make it skip over the keeper GOAL!!! GOAL!!!! GOOOOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!! That was the greatest goal of my life, maybe even better than my two olympico goals on a real field with a real ball. Just before the half Jimbo gets into the corner of my goal area, and amazingly flicks it over my keeper into the back of the net. I couldn't get high enough with a ladder - stupid trip to Europe. Second half, I work my quick passing game, he touches the ball on accident, and with two quick hits I beat his keeper again. 2-1! This is an amazing game. Seconds later he counters again and once again puts a shot into the upper corner over my boys reach. I hate him. Not done, the Hammers go on the offensive, and with a few quick moves with have the ball deep in his area - but my final touch can't reach the ball, but I have the ball angled outside of his 18, with all his defenders blocked - he has to use the keeper and try and force it off my two, count'em - two attackers. Its a tough shot, but in a 2-2 game its pressure. He misses! Keeper goes off the table and I walk in and slot in the 3rd goal. The nail in the coffin 3-2. First time I have ever scored 3 goals. Well with just seconds left Jim runs down the left side of the field, I send two defenders to chase him, but he flicks it off one of my defenders and past me for the equalizer. Now I'm not a great attacker, but my goalkeeping is usually better than average - but not this game, as Jim punished me every time. What a great game.
I guess Jim learned how to shoot while he was in Europe, but congrats on your record offensive performance. That's impressive to play so well against someone who probably is reaching a new level of Subbuteo after seeing the best in the world play. Is Jim's L'pool team his own or on loan from someone else? I didn't know he wasn't using Hasbro's anymore. Good stuff. Hope to see you both at the National 11/2.
Jim uses Liverpool on his astrobases. I think it was our dual record, although he may have done better against Jeff (age 13), but I'm not sure. I don't think I'll be at the Nationals, we have the league meetings on the 6th and I'll be away from the "fly" for 3 days already. Then in December I'm going to Italy for 5 days. Maybe next year...
Re: Re: A great subbuteo match No, the Nick Rimando figure, more suceptible to high shots. Meola is more of a missing near post keeper.
Re: Re: Re: A great subbuteo match Yes, Meola's near post maladies transfer over to Subbuteo pretty well. About two years ago in a holiday tournament my UVa all-star squad fell behind 3-0 in the first half and all those goals were at the near post while Meola was in goal. But we righted the ship and left it late to end the match 3-3 There was much rejoicing
