I don't know about the rest of you but this was a great week for me in soccer. I started out Thursday night with an indoor game (amatuer) that was the first time I have been able to play against my son in a competitive game of soccer. My team of old farts beat his high school team 7-5. Then Friday, I did the National Coaching Convention at Bartle topping it off with the MLS Draft. Way COOL! Saturday, I did more of the convention seminars and saw the Wizards do their demo. (This was scary since they were playing on regular green carpet instead of turf. I was afraid that someone was going to break something) I also helped out with a Special Olympics soccer demo there that afternoon. Then on to the National Team watch party at the Pavilion. Needless to say, I'm ready for the season to start already. How many of you guys made the draft or the watch party? I always see people at these things but haven't put faces to monikers yet.
I was at both. I was the one that kept Spoon from mouthing off to Lamar Hunt and wore a hooded Chiefs sweatshirt to the watch party. The draft was a cool and different experience. The watch party was something different to do on a Saturday night besides the bar or a movie, I enjoyed seeing Klien and Garcia play, and it brought back memories of the summer watching the US games. But the US/Canada game sucked.
It wasn't much of game. I think our goalies probably only registered two saves combined in this shutout. But it was nice to see someone playing some round ball out of doors. Was that field a mess or what?
Just saying, if you ask Matt, Derek or I, we saw a Spoon rant coming. Either way, I think your point was well made without anything extra.
I made it to the draft and was lucky enough to be in the VIP seats. Wearing my 21 Igor jersey, then again my English accent gives me away too
A Holland jersey to a Wizards event. If you like blue, go with a WIZARDS jersey. I was busy all day wearing my WIZARDS jersey to an all day referee seminar in Des Moines.
It was indeed a great weekend...I got out of school early to go to the draft and met Josh Wolff (unfortunatly my pictures didnt come out. Damn fuji film for not telling me to turn on the flash indoors. how am i to know?) And the watch party was way cool because I finally met Sean Wheelock. I had 3 games of my own but I played a combinded total of 5 minutes in the 3 games and we lost all of them...oh well
Sorry to hear about the film and the L's. Maybe you should blame your LSN-Bronco education. Being a Wildcat and BS grad I do remember something about inside pretty much always being inside and devoid of sunlight. Kiding, I have to admit that I didn't get the whole "F-stop, flash, light, etc." concept until it was explained to me in a college Photog class.
yeah that was me my mom teaches in topeka and about the holland jersey because the only wizards jerseys i have is the one we got for renewing our season tickets or whatever that was.
Cool. Good to meet you, kind of. Those season ticket blue jerseys are lame. Cool Holland jersey. It was blue after all. Now if it had been the orange one, that would be different.
How was I to know that the lights on in the room wernt enough...they should put a warning on the camera for people such as me who don't know better
Chick, I took the pic and I told you that you needed flash! So all the rest turned out ok right? It was indeed a good soccer weekend. I attended the draft on Friday in the reserve section. I watched for the people I thought I might know due to various jerseys, but when it came down to it - too many people in too many jerseys floating around. I left the hospitality room right before the talk - wearing jeans, white shirt and long tan sweater coat. That jog any memories? I did attend the watch party on Saturday night too. I was in jeans, light blue turtleneck sweater and black hooded coat and sat on the left side near the aisle and big screen tv. Once again, I should have looked around, but I wouldnt have even begun to know who any of you were. Glad it was a good weekend for all those involved. The draft was a bit too slow for my taste. You would think that those coaches/GMs come in with their top twenty picks and would just cross names off the list as the draft goes, but time out after time out and then some - are you kidding me? I was ready for that hospitality room by mid second round. But I am glad for the experience.
All the pics you took EXCEPT the josh wolff on came out. you were the only one smart enough to use a flash. What a bummer...but this does give me another reason to get a picture with josh wolff...
Re: Re: A Great Soccer Weekend There is a good possibility the camera was indeed trying to tell you that very thing. Most non-cardboard (throwaway) cameras have a little idiot lightening bolt light that flashes when you need to use a flash.... Then again, maybe yours doesn't.
