Korean National Hero MengBo Hong is now

in LA team. We can already imagine the

stadium full of Hong's Korean supporters

when we think about massive Korean

population in LA and huge soccer

    interests among Koreans after their

finest WC. SO.. What is he( MetroStar's

GM) doing? Although NY,NJ,and PA has

    second largest Korean population, there's

noone in Metro's roster from Asia. I'm

100% sure that if Metrostars signs a

decent but an inexpensive korean player,

they will win all the Korean soccer fans

of whole Eastern league and save a tone

    of money.

Yea we tried that for ages with the Colombians on the team. Look where that got us!

I want good players who. I don't care where they are from.

dude get your head out of your ass,,,,, the only way the koreans will come out on a consistent basis or any other nationality is if their "home" country comes with their full national team,,,,case in point,,,,when we had pitufo,,,but when we played the columbian national team in a scrimmage there was 40 thou in attendence...when will people realize that nationality will not bring out fans,,,,time and quality soccer will,,,,,not to mention the atmosfphere(sp) that a S.S. stadium would bring,,,,peace out, my drunken ass is going to sleep...

72k show up for a one-off friendly between Real Madrid and AS Roma. All the stadium contributed was space for the mob and a crap surface. The fans and their expectation of 'quality' provided the atmosphere.

The expectation of quality is enough for a one-shot deal to succeed. The quality of that match remains questionable, but the reputations of those teams are so great that most remain convinced they saw quality, 'a real football match.'

Truth emerges slowly, out of the long grind of league play, and the truth is there are not enough soccer fans (as opposed to event fans)of any kind to net an average of 30k per game -- which would make MLS wildly successful if that happened across the board.

If each team had one, bonifide star in his prime, would that help? If only the league could afford such an experiment!

Brownsman you have a good point, but I was referring more to the original post about bringing in one player of a certain nationality to boost ticket sales.

Well, I remeber being at a Metros game and a large contingent waving the sengalese flag were rooting mamdou on. Given it wasn't 500 senegalese fans , it was more like 10 or 15 and mamdou even threw them his sweaty shirt after he scored a goal. So if there were to be a Korean player on the team I'm sure more Koreans would be interested , but I don't think it would be such a drastic change. The average attendance would go from 14,300 to 14,340.

    But every little bit counts.

Being that Andy Williams and Ziade are Jamaican did anybody notice more Jamaicans coming to the Games?

There are the fans and then there are the fans who don't know much about MLS here. Without much advertising , with out much news coverage, I think that every angle is constantly being discussed about getting more people to watch.

I think it's up to MLS fans to spread the word and defend the product. When I talk to people now they have a hard time putting the MLS down because it is easily defendable, As opposed to a couple of years back when we weren't showing much progress.

i kno a lot of koreans...and none of them give a crap about soccer. they were only excited for that 1 month. that was just a social/ethnic pride thing. signing a korean player would be pointless it wouldnt bring in anymore fans. besides..how many people r really stupid enough to pay money just to say "hey! theres a person w/the same ethnicity as me!"

It is true that there's no Asians on the Metro roster. But it's not Koreans where the Metros should look. The place is clearly BRUNEI. If you think Koreans have money, they're nothing when compared to BRUNEIANS. The Sultan of BRUNEI is one of the richest people in the world. And BRUNEIANS are great soccer fans who can't wait to succeed on a bigger stage. I can provide you a list of 10-20 great BRUNEIAN players that would make a great fit for the Metros and will bring a lot of BRUNEIAN fans to the seats.

What a fabulous idea. I mean, wouldn't it be great if we could just emulate the huge boosts to attendance that were acheived by the throngs of Iranians that became Metros supporters when Mohammed Khakpour was signed?

Get real. Who was the favorite MetroStar across the ethnic board in 2001? A white cracker from Georgia. Quality counts. Everything else is simple-minded ineffective marketing.

  16. I am def. up for diversifying the metro crowd and team. It seems that this league is catered to latin america way too much. Without the emergence of a broader global appeal the same 20,000 latin american fans will be attending every game. Personally i am sick of feeling like i'm in a different country when i go see a game. 1 - Bring in the quality 2 - bring in the diversity. And maybe if one korean comes the attendence will only go up 200 but its a start. if one italian comes maybe the same will happen and so on. You need to start building the change somewhere instead of sticking with this market that has reached a latin american equilibrium. Everyone should be able to go there and feel some of their pride - primarily an overall metro pride and secondary a national pride for their respective players. The way it is now only the latin americans have the secondary pride welcome on this team. (Except for our boy clint and a handful of others :) )

If you are interested in this type of topic ...check out the Peru vs. Ecuador who cares topic. You might not like what i ahve to say but i say it how it is.

And we can all see how you can be wrong for numerous reasons on different threads.

Ah, I remember the days when we had Donadoni, when he was still playing for Forza Italia and we had like 40,000 Italians coing to Metro games- oops we never got that many?

And remind me again how many Latin American players we have on the Metro? Is it 1? Can that be?

  18. I said you have to start somewhere. Donadoni was here for one year...in a market that has flushed other fans out. I would have taken more than a year to get the numbers up. And if you noticed I said even if it starts at 200 more...that's better than the same crowd all the time.
And I just checked the update roster...it looks like there are 7 or 8 spanish/latin american players...not the mention all the ones they have had in the past.
I'm sure if add all them up and all the italians, koreans, germans, irish...etc. it doesn't equal 1/10 of the latin americans they have had.

Donadoni was here for more than one year.

Name 8 players who are latin americans and currently signed on the Metros roster.

    Forza,

Your right for the most part, but im not here to comment on the latin situation, eeven though there were alot more hispanics on the Metros than anything else, maybe even more than caucasians.

Anyway, Forza, i like the teams you support, looks like we have a common interest.

im not tryin to put moves on you, im just sayin that if you wanna get something Roman off your chest, its safe to make a thread in this forum, ill read it.

I still don't understand why nobody is talking about the lack of BRUNEIANS on the team. A huge market of quality players and hardcore fans is going untapped! Somebody answer! Go BRUNEI!
