Hmm, well I'm bored and pissed about the Scum match, we should of got a point out of that, so I thought I'd start a thread, a sort of get to know you, for us Leeds fans... Lets see, I'm an American born in St.Louis Missouri... Been a Leeds fan for awhile now... You all know who my favorite team is, but you probably don't know who I hate the most... Theres really only 3 teams I consider that I hate... And thats Man U, Newcastle, and Liverpool... If they play each other I root for whoever is playing against Man U first.. My favorite players are Kewell, Robinson, Fowler, Van d Vaart for Ajax, and Cisse for Auxerre in France... And since I'm American I'd be wrong not to put Mathis in here, love him or hate him, he's the best striker USA has ever produced IMHO... I love Leeds, but I think that while Alan Smith will be a good player, he will never live up to the hype, although that left footed try against Man U that Barthez BARELY saved was world class, so I might be proven wrong... I think not accepting the bid into the Inter-Toto was a mistake, we well could of had a road to UEFA if we fail to take the FA... I think Ian Harte has been given a bad rap and should be given more of a chance to play, did you see the free kick against Man U???... I think next year will be alot better than this year... I believe PR has the best interests at heart for Leeds, and that the board are the most to blame for this seasons selling... I also think me and gocaps wouldn't get along as I am avid BLUES fan and DUKE fan... And lastly I think that TV had no idea what he was getting himself into this year... hehe...
I'm also an American living in Maryland. I have just started to follow Leeds. I have been an avid soccer fan since this past summer's World Cup. The first Premiership game I saw on TV was Leeds-Manchester City on opening day of the season. I figured that I would pick Leeds as my team to follow since they won the game and had Robbie Keane on their side (who I loved watching play for Ireland). Well, Leeds would sell Keane about a week or two later but I stuck with Leeds and have been a fan ever since. I listened to the Scum-Leeds game on the radio over the internet and they said something about Americans sitting in a cafe or something and jumping for joy when we scored. I wasn't in a cafe, but instead my basement and I did indeed jump when it was 1-1. So now with Keane gone Kewell has taken over as my favorite player on the team. I hate Duke and love UMD. Go Terps! DC United is my favorite team on this side of the pond. If Freddy Adu goes anywhere in the Premiership one day I pray that it is with Leeds.
American in Virginia, grew up in Maryland. Hate the Scum and Chelsea. I really really hate Chelsea actually, almost (but not quite) as much as the Scum. Leeds fan for several years, saw them play when they came to RFK Stadium for an exhibition against DC United (my favorite MLS team) in '97 - during the era of the "We will score again" chant But I really began to appreciate the club during the DOL years - I loved the fire and tenacity with which the team played. Favorite ever match was the one at Highbury last season - Bow and Mills sent off and we still won. Nothing typified the side I fell in love with more than that match. Smith is my favorite player - he still plays with the passion I loved about the DOL sides. I still picture him scoring that game-winner against Lazio in the CL...I screamed so loud. Darr - the NHL Blues are fine (I actually went to a playoff game at the Kiel a couple of years ago - I have a close friend who is a Blues fan), but Duke is simply unacceptable. And the Metros? Hang your head in shame my man... mellon - Didn't I meet you in a bar in Foxboro the night before the Jamaica match last year? Pale blue Leeds polo shirt? Woody wouldn't have fallen asleep on Silvestre yesterday. That sale absolutely killed me...I hated but understood Rio - I couldn't understand Woody. He came through our system and was just starting to round back into pre-trial form. A devastating sale. Mills is an outside back, damn it! I pray that Leeds are smart enough to try to bring in Freddy Adu before every club in the world starts chasing him...
I'm another Yank Leeds supporter. I started following the team at the very end of the Howard Wilkenson's time as manager. I picked Leeds because that's the team I played with in FIFA Soccer for the Sega Genisis, I didn't know anything about the team at that time. I then started following them on the internet, and later through FSW once I got digital cable. I was a big Lee Boywer fan, but the more I've heard about his off the field activities, the less I liked him. With that said, my favorite Leeds player is Alan Smith. I wish Leeds has sold Kewell and maybe Viduka and kept Woodgate and Dacourt. One player I can't stand is David Batty, and I hope TV keeps him on the bench. He is way past his prime, a D1 player now. As for as not Leeds teams, I'm an SEC person for college sports, an alum of LSU (2003 College Football Recuiting Champs). Lets hope we can get past Wednesday this weekend.
Gocaps- Unfortunately that wasn't me. Regretably I never made it to Foxboro before they tore it down. I do plan on attending plenty of DC United games this seaon. There's a possibility I might do play-by-play for the team on the radio, so I will either be in the booth or possibly down with La Norte.
Play-by-play. Really? I'm on the SE exec board and I have been hearing rumblings about a possible English-language radio deal. How likely is it - do you know?
I'm not exactly sure because I haven't had much feedback about how the process is going. I contacted the intern director almost two months ago and I haven't heard anything without me asking. I called her about a week ago and she said that she had a meeting the the communications director last thursday. I just called again yesterday and left a message with her asking how it went. Hopefully she will e-mail me or call me today. I'm thinking about calling the communications director and just asking him how its going.
American living in West Virginia. Like mjtate, started following them near the end of the Wilko era. Used to watch whenever I could on espn2 when they were showing England games. Then in '97? I took 3 friends and saw my first Leeds game against DC United from the Leeds section. So much fun! 1-1 goals by Bowya and Sanneh. Then a little over a year ago I was baptized and Splargy was my priest. ELLAND ROAD! After that there was never any doubt that I would be a Leeds fan for life.
I'm another Maryland Leeds Fan. There should be a clubhouse somewhere... My brother got me into the World Cup back in '98. It was the first sporting event I'd ever given a toss about. I started following the sport wherever I could which was not an easy task for someone who didn't have the internet (until 2000) and still doesn't have satellite. I first saw Leeds in 2000 during their Champions League run (one of the few places to catch club football in the states). They got creamed by Barcelona 4-0. But they showed tenacity, and i liked that. The next tie (Barcelona at Elland Road) sealed the deal for me. I still have that one on tape. Paul Robinson (then an untested #2 goalie) made save after save to hold onto their 1-0 lead...in the rain...very dramatic. 30 seconds from the whistle Rivaldo scores...it broke my heart, but it made me a fan for good. I'm doing what i can to get to Elland Road (at least once). Lottery and Rockstardom, that's my plan...then I'll get myself season tickets...
