Here's a fun offseason topic to kill some time...at least in my mind. Say a Firehouse gets built. Would you like to see the stands get named like they often are in Europe, and if so, what would you like the stand names to be? Heroes of the early Fire years? Heroes of Chicago soccer in general? Recognizing corporate sponsors?
I'm having fun already. Ok, enough joking. I've been a proponent of naming the whole thing Stern Park. As important as some of the players we've had have been, it seems early to name any stand after a player we've had, even Nowak. And the only player or two over the modern era of Chicago history that might qualify is Granitza or maybe Klopas. This is one of those things that has to evolve over time, it's hard to make decisions on immortalising players in a stadium in our sixth year.
Well, as far as I am concerned only three stands would have to be named...the fourth would be Section 8. The other three...I'd rather have the Granitza Stand, the Klopas Stand, and the Nowak Stand then the Motorola Stand, the United Stand, and the McDonalds Stand, unless they ponied up some nice coin for the honor.
Well I'm all for raising funds, so if there really is a corporate sponsor that'll kick in some significant change for naming rights, more power to em. Does the naming convention extend to rest rooms? Can former coaches be considered? Just kidding. -Tron
In my dreams it usually ends up the Tribesoft Fire House but those dreams would cost way to many dollars to achieve...oh well I'll pony up for life time season tickets and then 75 years or so when they build the second Fire House my kids can pay an outrageous amount of money at auction for the seats their old man spent so many weekends at. I think the reality would be that when a stadium is built it will go to a corporate sponsor and I for one will openly and gladly support said sponsor with my dollars to show my appreciation.
