If say Hollywood was to do a film on MLS or the National Team what would you want it to be about? The Beckham experiment? Or perhaps the very first season of MLS? The US quarter-final run in the 2002 World Cup? Who would you recommend to direct? And who might star in the film? Could any of Hollywood's actors pull off a professional soccer player? Do you think it would be a comedy or drama and would it have the potential to be a successful film? Oscars or sequels? It's just strange that there is never any serious soccer films. It's either a British film or some silly kid 's movie. What do you think?
Here's the problem with the Big Green: not enough Mighty Ducks on the team!! Other than that, a beautiful movie. Even Gutenberg managed to be funny!
Well, there was "The Miracle of Bern" which is a German movie about the 1954 World Cup. There was also a movie about the USA 1-0 victory over England (Known either as "the miracle match" or "the game of their lives", but it's exceedingly mediocre.
If Hollywood were going to do another soccer movie it would probably be a remake of "Victory" or "Escape to Victory" as some of you know it. Frankly with all the remakes Hollywood is putting out I'm surprised this isn't one of them.
I'd say better than exceedingly mediocre, maybe "pretty OK!" lol But it's a fun little movie, worth checking out if you can find it somewhere.
Meh. It was OK. If your looking for an MLS movie, ESPN did one not to long ago about Beckham coming to LA. It has all the ESPN regs (Lalas, Mustoe, Hislop, Nicols, Smyth) and it seemed like it was going to be a 30 for 30 movie but just wasnt good enough, nuanced or interesting enough. Pretty straight forward story about Beckham to MLS. You can probably find it on ESPN.com, just by searching "Beckham MLS"
I believe in that movie "I Love You Man" 2 characters went to a Galaxy film. I'd imagine sooner or later once we do better in a WC we may be destined for a film on the Nat Team or a tv show with characters who actually like soccer.
You got the wrong Photoshop face because that is not Jurgen's style, it should of been Bob's face he would love to wear that blue tiger tracksuit and he would wear it with pride. Who has the more swagg?
It would be more of a series, maybe, but I do think a documentary following a couple of players trying to make it onto the MNT squad would be really good, especially if you followed a domestic player and a player abroad. I think a lot of folks would find that journey pretty interesting and it would inform people about the NT.
A film of the 1930 World Cup team, the last hurrah of the so promising early phase of the American game, before a return to a USA falling deep into the "Great Depression" and the burning away of the economic foundations and worker's culture which had undergird soccer in this nation. There were men of great talent coming into their prime, and then it all fell apart in a struggle for survival. It is a great, and bittersweet, story. It is a hope that MLS and the sport today has found the structures which will stand in what is to come for us.
