just wondering if the members of the ESC that are offended by some of the things sadi/done in 101 would rather have a separate section for family-oriented members. this was brought up last night at Nathan Hales and I'm just curious if it would be a viable option. I don't know where the section would be though....

Isn't the rest of the stadium, one giant family section?

Id like to know what is it that people are really offended by. Is it just the use of language? What things have been done in the section that offended anyone?

I know in the past we have had problems with Diallo chants and various vulgar language chants. Is there anything new or is it the same crap?

I'm all for caging off the mommies, daddies, and kiddies in their own area. Sometimes I feel as if I'm at a glorified picnic.

I would also like to retract a previous posting in which I complained about half the place at doubleheaders clearing out after the first game. Those are the people that tend to leave. Fine. Go. (And take the God Damn "noise bangers" or whatever those ****ing things are called with you.) Leave me in peace for the second game with some of the real soccer fans.

Okay, now it's time to attack me again. Feel free to pile on.

I would actually have an interest in such a section. I bring my daughter to the game and would like to be seated in a slightly toned down supporters section (however not as toned down as the rest of the stadium).

From reading the lyrics on the ESC site to listening to some of the escapades at RFK and the Razor, I am hesitant to sit with her in the section. No past experience - just perception.

The ultimate question is whether ESC wants to increase membership by including families and a younger crowd or stick with the middle age rowdy group it's currently mostly made of. We could increase ESC membership by cleaning up some of the swearing and drunkenness and make the group more family friendly but would that take away from a good time by some? Otherwise we need to figure out other ways to increase our numbers. I guess if ESC wants to be an all inclusive supports club and increase membership it has to decide what image and purpose it wants to convey to the masses.

    Hmm, lets see...
"You Suck Azzhole" on goal kicks
The "it only Burns when I Pee" Chant (my favorite)
    The Etchavarry chant

Hell, I want to bring my 11 year old nephew to a few games, but I know I'll have to get tickets for another section. As much I love the chants, my sister will kill me if he came back home repeating only half of those chants.

Aren't there 2 or 3 sections on either side of 101 that go unsold?

Well, if what I say in 101 can't be heard in 102 or 103, I may as well keep my mouth shut...

My 2 cents - anything said in 101 is also said at your little angel's gradeschool, so we're not teaching anybody anything. And kids are inherantly evil little buggers anyway, and will certainly enjoy their fond memories of you washing their mouth out with soap.

But feel free to tell junior that we're classless losers who smell funny after we drink a few adult sodas - people with no perspective on life and who have squandered our special gifts in order to be fat, lazy, slovely buffoons. Fair 'nuf?

Good topic starter, PSUdude. See, when you stop trying to act like the latest MTV cartoon character, you actually have something relevant to add.

I don't join the ESC because I'm not a joiner, but I appreciate your presence in the stadium. If I could get over my revulsion to cliques, I would love to join because I get tired of getting stared down by parents and warnings from the rent-a-pigs when I yell that Mark Chung sucks, or whatever. And your singing clearly adds a little atmosphere when otherwise there would be ZERO.

I think you should just keep doing what you're doing. The league can't engineer everything... indeed, one of the most successful aspects of the Metrostars existence has been a vital supporters club. How many other consistent successes have we seen associated with this club? Sure ESC has had its ups and downs, but the ESC is truly, more or less, a creation of the people who make up its membership. I say let it flow.

I guarantee this, a "family oriented" supporters club would quickly become a total irrelevance. As has been pointed out already, we have such a club, they sit in section 102-2whatever. If the club wants to form such a section, fine, it's no skin off the ESC's back. But after a couple of lame fits and starts with singing and acting in concert one way or another, the family supporters club would be nothing but a minor Metros marketing scheme that might allow them to unload a few more t-shirts one season. That's it. Trust me.

So, let the metros try to form that sort of supporters club, fine. But you guys should just do what you do, whatever comes naturally. It's worked pretty well so far, with a team and a league that have had too few successes.

If they ever get that Harrison stadium built, they'll be no need for a family friendly ESC section. The rest of the stadium will have enough atmosphere for the family friendly crowd.

Until then, I agree that Metrogo that any attempt to create such a section in Giants Stadium will be about as relevant as chants started on the PA system.
