pc4th, i've tried browsing through all the posts in the thread -excellent stuff btw-... I guess there are no "actual figures" when it comes to what MLS is supposed to get from TV deals starting in 2007, is there? I recall reading something on that from NYT article just recently...Also, at the end of this USA Today article http://www.usatoday.com/sports/columnist/hiestand-tv/2005-10-25-hiestand-nba_x.htm ... .. "So what does this bidding mean for MLS? Commissioner Don Garber, just before leaving Tuesday for FIFA's offices in Zurich, says it's "an important statement" for the sport. And while MLS games on ESPN2 average 0.2% of cable households and its 2004 title game drew 0.8% of households on ABC, Garber says MLS will get paid its first-ever rights fee in its next English-language TV deal, which will begin in 2007. He also suggests FIFA, in awarding U.S. World Cup rights, might consider requiring the winning bidder to also carry MLS games: "It's our view that FIFA will ensure that any decision they make will support overall growth in soccer interest in this country." Where, as everybody knows, soccer has a future. ...... and also here http://blog.soccersiliconvalley.com/archives/2005/10/ but as to how much $$ is directly for MLS (in any exact way), i'm unable to find a thing...any more detailed/comprehensive sources on this?

Some main points about reducing stadium capacity to increase demand and smooth revenue. http://www.boston.com/business/articles/2006/04/20/ballparks_prove_less_is_more/
1) Philly and Pittsburgh (and to an extent, St.L) went from dual-purpose to single-purpose stadia. I would guess all three never averaged within 10,000 of capacity. 2) If Oakland wasn't sucking, they would open up those seats in a flash. Thx, Jay!

Hey All: Was just curious if anyone knew what rights fees the domestic channels pay for their soccer content. I'm especially curious what Fox Soccer Channel pays for the EPL (and Serie A). Any info on what Gol pays for La Liga, Bundesliga and Serie A would be great as well. Thanks!

Manchester United has a value of 1,4 billon $ and Real Madrid had revenue of 374 million $. Not bad for a sport without commercial breaks. How do they come up with these values anyway? most of the clubs are not registered at the stock exchange, must be some kind of subjective estimate. Why isnt Barcelona higher in the list, they have the second highest revenue. Bayern Munich has no debth and have a huge bank account and they are behind Arsenal?.I think these clubs would have much higher value if they had a salary cap like the NFL where the owners are allmost guaranteed a big surplus (income).
