If a guy wanted to place a bet on MLS and resided in this country, how would he or she go about doing it? I honestly have not even the slightest clue.

If I had to put cash down on a full slate...

Gals, over - LA home opener and another Ruiz return. Too much Gals

RSL, over - I'm willing to take a loss on a CLMB road game until they prove they can actually play on the road, even against RSL. Over: Cunningham does score in bunches typcally, he got 2 last week.

NE, over - NE shutout at home last week. Hard to look for a repeat. Revs should be well motivated for a blowout of newbee Toronto FC. NE at 1.67 should tell you how prohibitive they are.

DC, over <-----confidence pick. DC 4-0 v KC last year with 3 of those coming during the World Cup prep when KC was severely short-handed. KC also short this week as they have no defensive cover, 2 back-ups are hurt, Garcia suspended, and Shavar Thomas was traded. DC with a poor performance on the road in the cold of Denver and the party atmosphere of a new building - again, looking for a repeat is foolish. Also, KC was middling last week v Seattle. Over: DC has an alarming habit of winning openers with KC 3-2 no matter where they are played.

HOU, over - Chivas is and will be increasingly better under Preki; but like NE, HOU had a poor effort and will put it together. Ching early in this one. Tie worth a look here.

NY, over - Dallas is in the second roadie of two during the weekend. That usually means 3 points for the home team in MLS. Both teams reportedly suck, so default is with the home team also. Tie is worth a look, but all of you know how I feel about betting ties.

Col, under - COL at home agian onthe largest field in MLS. Having played high level sports at altitude, I'll just say it's an advantage and leave it at that. Until someone beats COL at home, take them when they wear dark. It helps that Chicago is the roadie as well. I think this is the gift price of the weekend at 2.3. For the "under" I have this line of logic: I havn't studied it, but I'd guess that Denver on balance has had a history of being under 2.5 more often than anywhere else in MLS. Chicago on the road has been similar to dc on the road...not exciting stuff normally. COL also wins 1-0 often when they do win at home.

    Good luck!

Further note on Dallas: I'm going guaranty a NY win. Dallas plays the late game in LA Thursday night - on the road on short rest, then flies again cross-country to NY to play the early (3p EST) start in NY on Sunday.

That should be illegal. The only tougher thing would be if Dallas played DC early Sunday while KC was at NY. Other than that, it gets no tougher.

Wizardscharter - Hell, I've been AWOL from here even longer than you!

Anyway, I like NY over Dallas, but I'm not sure how much significance to attach to the travel thing. They'll break up the trip in Dallas I assume. It's early season. Maybe that's a factor? For the last 20 minutes or so it could easily be a factor, but NY will have to certain not to blow it in the first 70 minutes. Just not sure. I do like NY here, but I don't know if I think it's a worth a larger than usual stake due to the travel.

But there's still time for you to sell me on it!

EDIT -- Regarding your other question, I'm with betandwin right now. But I just noticed I'm still registered as living overseas. I'm not sure what will happen when I try to withraw some winnings. I just e-mailed them to try and find out. I'll let you know what they say. In terms of quantity, betandwin do offer the most MLS prices.

Well - bwin do respond quickly, I'll give them them that. Here's the response I got:

    Thank you for your e-mail.

Unfortunately US residents are not allowed to play on the bwin site.

The decision to exclude US-residents from sports betting was finally made by management upon the solicitation of our US attorneys, with regard to the latest legal developments in the United States.

We repeat that according to these new directives you are unable to play on our bwin Casino, Poker and Softgame site.

We apologise for any incovenience caused.

    Kind regards,

    Your bwin support team

Note the part that I bolded. Am I supposed to be reading between the lines there? They leave out sports betting there.

Anyway, I'm now wishing I had sent that anonymously, as I have a good deal of money in my account. I guess I won't change my person details, which still have me living overseas, not in the US.

Ugg. Good chance I'll be overseas again soon. I guess I'm waiting.

Welcome back, Justin O and Wizardscharter. About time we got some action around here. I've been talking to myself for months.

Considering the USDOJ crackdown on online gambling, it's best to stick with the A+ books like Bodog, Bet Jamaica, The Greek, and WSEX. Neteller's collapse has really put a clamp on funding accounts. WU is a pain to use, but it's one of the few options left.

I know that Bodog isn't a low juice book, but they do offer the best and fastest funding options. I highly recommend using NUcharge if you're needing to get several hundred dollars into an account quickly. You'll need to find another option if you're a high roller.

MM - What do you mean by "A+ books" exactly? Bwin is certainly about as big as it gets. AC Milan's shirt sponsor after all!

I'm pretty well committed to bwin until I get my money out. Not sure exactly how Western Union works and if I can pick up money at a Western Union branch here while I'm still officially registered with bwin as living overseas.

You're fortunate that you have an overseas address. Bwin no longer takes action from Americans. No doubt that Bwin is reputable business as long as you're not a Yank. There's a well known website that ranks online books. Bwin's most recent grade is a C-.

Well, I had an overseas address. I'm back now, though I obviously haven't changed my personal details on the account.

Which site are you refering to that grades the bookmakers? C- seems awfully harsh. Without bwin I would never have been to bet on the Kazakhstani League match I attended last year.

SBR is the sportsbook reviewer that I mentioned. I think that Bwin has had trouble with line errors.
