Has anyone read 90 Minutes Soccer Magazine? They're saying all the things everyone wants to say but won't. It's got some good stuff in it. Funny too.
i've never even heard of it. is it a new magazine? i honestly don't know, because I am typically not a magazine reader and thus have no idea which magazines are in circulation.
I found it at a Barnes and Noble bookstore, but on the magazine it looks like you can subscribe too at 90soccer.com.
It's on its second life. A brief history of 90:00 Minutes: Life 1 Yan Skwara and friends at SDSD (Soccer Developement of America -formerly San Diego) contracted with Sportsvue Marketing to produce a magazine. The Preview issue came out just before World Cup 2002. A handful of issues came out over the following year, but SDSD was drowning in red ink. You can read their astonishing prospectus at pinksheets. An interesting sidenote is that during this period their website repackaged news stories from ussocceruk.com. Life 2 Livewire Communications out of the Bay Area took over the magazine. Skwara is still listed as a "consultant" and the head honcho at 90:00 Minutes used to serve on the board at SDSD. Draw your own conclusions. Anyway, the magazine more or less relaunched without Sportsvue's involvement a few months ago. SoccerPost Sportsvue has moved on and has just started publishing (their first regular issue came out last week) a quarterly magazine sponsored by the retail franchise chain of the same name. Their lineup of contributors is almost the same as the first version of 90:00 Minutes, which is not surprising as the editorial control is the same.
The previous issue (with Zidane on the cover) had three of my photos in it, but they spelled my last name "Meao" all three times. That might be how my cat pronounces it, but that's not how it's spelled.
Wacky, I got an email tell me I was getting a free trial issue. Sure enough I have a Freddy in my mailbox a few days later. Good stuff for the most part.
I had nothing but problems with them. I subscribed for a year and never got a magazine. I sent emails trying to straiten everything out and every time they assured me the problem was fixed but I never got the issue. Finally they said they resolved the problem and they would send me some back issues to replace the issues I missed... I don't know what good that was. Everything I read was old news. 2 of the issues were REAL old news about the WC 2002 an this was June 2003. And what's more, the problem was never resolved. I just gave up. They can keep my $50 but that's all they're getting from me. I'm going to laugh my @$$ off if I get a subscription renewal card from them this year. HAHAHA... their issues couldn't find their way to my house, but the subscription renewals can.
Sorry to hear that, AndyMead .... Anyway, here is part of the Wynalda interview.... As many people always point out: You can agree or disagree with the guy, but he is always fun to read because of his bluntness/honesty 10 Reasons to Love (or Hate) Eric Wynalda http://www.soccer365.com/_365_Interviews/page_123_65984.shtml
