www.90soccer.com, which stopped working briefly a couple weeks ago, appears to be gone. This time it's a "coming soon" page from a webhosting company. Looking up the Whois record, the domain name expired on June 4th, and it looks like the webhosting company pulled the plug on the 14th. Interestingly, the parent companies site, www.soccerdev.com, which used to just redirect to 90soccer.com now asks for a username/password. Anyone know what is going on at Soccer Development of America (SDSD) or 90 Minutes magazine?
Here's their latest quarterly statement: http://biz.yahoo.com/e/030612/sdsd.pk10qsb.html $3200 in revenue for the quarter?!?
Gone? I would assume that it is no more but I that would only be an assumption as I have not heard anything specific. I'm sure the mag cost a bundle to produce and from what I could see they didn't have many advertisers of the paying variety...
Until I hear otherwise, I doubt that they're totally dead, but it now looks like their website being down a couple of weeks ago was for non-payment (the 6/4 date), and the current state of it being offline is due to continued non-payment. I just wonder what impact this will have on the MPSL and WPSL. Both of their sites are still up www.mpsl.info www.wpsl.info
US Soccer UK more interestingly, I wonder what impact this will have with Chris Bergin's ussocceruk which is by my understanding, a part of Soccer Development Inc. This could be bad news for Chris which is a shame since he has poured alot of heart and soul into his work.
Good to hear. I really don't know what their business plan for making money is, but that last thing we need is fewer soccer publications in this country.
Not true. What we need is more good soccer publications. 90:00 is put together by folks who have no idea what successful magazines are doing these days. The design is piss poor and the stock that they're printing on is ridiculous. Why in the hell would you print on something that nice as a startup? Give me a better design, good photo editing and tighter pieces with more short stories. The last thing we need is more long form, rambling pieces.
some cash? some plans? http://biz.yahoo.com/bw/030619/195124_1.html "CP Capital will partner with SDA to create a special soccer investment banking joint venture in which CP Capital will be involved in several key aspects, including obtaining financing for European and South American soccer teams, wealth management, investor communications for publicly traded European soccer clubs, and creating strategic partnerships to assist in specific projects. The CP Capital/SDA joint venture will do business as a "dba" under the name International Soccer Finance Group. " Tony
I like 90 Minutes and Chris' site is up and running http://www.ussocceruk.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpBB2&file=index
That magazine is OK, but their overhead is WAY too much to ever become a successful business venture. They (Yan & company) seem to throw money at the most ridiculous things in US futbol. Why compete with Soccer America? They're not making a killing and they've done it well for a long time. Try something different. Maybe a professional club in San Diego. Ooops they tried that, screwed that up royally! They can certainly try Houston, NYC, St. Louis, etc. 90:00 will not last too long. They should be putting their money and time into something more worthwhile and fresh for futbol in America.
