Re: US Supporters: Everything you Need to Know for 9/3 and more I ran into Mark W. at the Quakes game so now I get the joke...
FROM MLSnet.com The U.S. national team can clinch a spot in the 2006 FIFA World Cup with a win over Mexico at Columbus Crew Stadium on Sept. 3. Fans from 46 U.S. states, D.C. and three countries have purchased tickets for the match...The four states that aren't represented are Hawaii, Maine, Montana and North Dakota...... I wanna meet those Alaska folks! Well done
Hey now... Montana's here representin... At least 4 Montanans will be in Sam's Army.. we just happen to live somewhere else now...
Out of the group of six of us who are going one hails from Burma (Myanmar if you prefer). He goes to the same college I attend and I have successfully converted him into a US soccer fan, as he wants to gain US citizenship and loves soccer. He will be the single Burmese fan in the stadium with a Donovan shirt on screaming for the United States.
I suggest for this one, that we unfurl the BAF at the beginning of the MEXICAN, not American, anthem. Most games I've been to in the past, we don't start bringing it up until the US anthem begins. Problem with that is that by the time the flag is completely unfurled, the anthem is already halfway over. So, on 9/3 (and at all future games), let's pull it up during the opposing anthem and be ready when our anthem STARTS.
Apologies if this has been posted already, but in case anyone is interested in following the Mexican team, their full itinerary is here: Hotel Columbus Airport Marriott 1375 Cassidy Avenue Columbus, Ohio 43219 U.S.A. Teléfono (614) 475 7551 Fax (614) 476 1476
I am planning on buying at Sam's Club... I think I can get a 24 pack for $15. I really like Yuengling. This is my first Sam's Army event. I am really excited about it. Anything I should know... if I don't show up with my face painted or something will I be shunned?
Wow... hard for me to believe that they would post that kind of information out there... makes me wonder if it's a decoy or for real.
Could always call and verify the reservation...or have someone you know that has a spanish accent call and cancel ALL the reservations, explaining they are from the Mexican Federation and that because the hotel information was leaked, they are going to stay elsewhere...
Well, yes and no. Last time, some V Army guys (zak and co.) met the Mexican team plane, waited patiently as they loaded the bus and then followed the bus into Columbus and watched them unload at the Adam's Mark. Now, I take a back seat to no one in my admiration for zak and the boys but this was not exactly rocket surgery. So unless they're going to smuggle the guys into CBus in ones and twos under cover of darkness, keeping the hotel a secret is a losy cause. And even if it was possible, they're going to work out at either Obetz, where the Crew works out, or Ohio State, where Bruce Arena is currently running Camp Paranoia. So even if they got into town incognito, the secret would be out as soon as their first practice ended. The team bus is hard to hide. Given all of that, the Airport Marriott is probably as good a choice as any. In 2001 they were downtown, and those gentle souls who were six blocks away in German Village had a very short walk after a night of boozing up. We won't get into what happened. ANYWAY, so an airport hotel makes some sense, and keeping it a secret is impossible, so they might as well put it out there. Maybe it's really a fake - anything is possible - but I'd be surprised.
