United up 2-0 at half time.

    RVN with a brace.

RVN and O'Shea are out for Forlan and G. Neville respectively....

And its over. 2-1, feeling kind of lucky to hold on considering the chances Leverkusen had in the second half. We'll take it though.

In some respects I'm glad to hear that RvN and O'Shea were injured because if Alex had made those half-time changes and decided on those second half tactics unforced I'd be looking for a new club to support :)

Anyone know what formation United played in the first half? They had 5 defenders, 4 mids, and RVN, but I can't imagine they played a 5-4-1. Did Silvestre play midfield?

Phil played centre midfield while Giggs played behind RVN in the 4-5-1, or rather, 4-4-1-1 formation. At the expense of Solskjaer once again.

    Ferguson hails defensive rock

Good thing the defense held firm. Without Ruud in the 2nd half, the attack suffered.

Phil Neville played center mid? I'm sure it was defensive mid, but this doesn't make much sense to me. Then again, what do I know...

In fact, I believe Phil Neville played the same position in the Maccabi Haifa game as well, and of course he provided the wonderful assist which allowed Giggs to score that all-important equalizer.
