The topic tonight is "Why women's sports are such a hard sell." The irony is that the broadcast will be delayed until 12:30 AM due to Monday Night Football.
I watched the show and I was impressed by what was said. They especially made a point that the NFL increased it's female fan base by going to the grassroots level. Seems the WUSA was expecting fans to show up.
Are you talking about that female football camp? Someone correct me if I am wrong but several teams held adult women soccer camps during the league's existence...the CheetoRays and Courage. My friends went to the Courage one and had a blast. I don't know if other teams did this. I do know the Freedom didn't go after adult rec league soccer players in the past three seasons....
The two things I found interesting were what they said about how hard the NFL has tried (and succeeded) in attracting and keeping female fans, and what Rebecca Lobo said about peer pressure on guys not to watch women's sports. There's no way a league that markets itself primarily toward under 12-year old girls can overcome that kind of peer pressure. There was a great quote from Lynn Morgan about how de WOOSA spent money the first season. Lynn Morgan: "Get it done and look at the checkbook later"
