9/21/2002 End of Day Playoff Scenarios My apologies if I've botched anything, my sources of raw information are http://www.mlsnet.com/special/mlscup/02/media/playoff_scenarios.pdf and http://www.thecrew.com/features/020921_murphy.asp. Note: I made a few assumptions about SJ winning during the playoffs, else why do we care. If Columbus loses to Chicago tomorrow, it's: SERIES A: (1) LA vs. (8) KC SERIES B: (2) NE vs. (7) CHI SERIES C: (3) SJ vs. (6) CLB SERIES D: (4) DAL vs. (5) COL SERIES E: LA/KC vs. DAL/COL SERIES F: NE/CHI vs. SJ SERIES G: LA/KC/DAL/COL vs. SJ MLS Cup 2002 If Columbus wins tomorrow, it's: SERIES A: (1) LA vs. (8) MET SERIES B: (2) CLB vs. (7) KC SERIES C: (3) SJ vs. (6) NE SERIES D: (4) DAL vs. (5) COL SERIES E: LA/MET vs. DAL/COL SERIES F: CLB/KC vs. SJ SERIES G: LA/MET/DAL/COL vs. SJ MLS Cup 2002 If Columbus ties tomorrow, it's: SERIES A: (1) LA vs. (8) CHI SERIES B: (2) CLB vs. (7) KC SERIES C: (3) SJ vs. (6) NE SERIES D: (4) DAL vs. (5) COL SERIES E: LA/CHI vs. DAL/COL SERIES F: CLB/KC vs. SJ SERIES G: LA/CHI/DAL/COL vs. SJ MLS Cup 2002 Any preference on who we face in the first round (NE or CLB) and, Ref willing, second round (NE/CHI or CLB/KC)?
Better to meet the Revs in the first round. Columbus is going to give the Quakes fits, especially in their home stadium. Last year's first round was magical for the Quakes, and this time the Crew will want a chance to settle the score. If the Quakes get home field, it could go down to a game three here with the Crew. It won't be easy with the Revs, but they can be beat. The Quakes and the Wizards might be even, but that can also go down to a game three. We'll see how the outcome of the Columbus-Chicago game will fare.
well, one thing's for sure, from my end: i'll have NO problem cheering on the revs or crew at foxboro, if the quakes don't make it. with d.c. out (WOO-HOO!!), i only have to worry about the galacto-pukes being there. 26+K last night, huh? way to go, folks!!
If we're going to face Columbus, I want to see them in the first round so we have home field advantage. They beat us twice in Columbus this year, and played us tough in San Jose twice this year. I think we can get past them with home field advantage, but we will have a hard time if we face them in the second round and they have home field advantage. If we're going to face New England, I don't think it matters who has home field advantage. Our defense is good enough to shut down Twellman, home or away, so we can beat them on the road (we did earlier this year). So I'm hoping Chicago wins today, so we get the SJ v Columbus matchup in the first round.
It's deja vu all over again. Columbus and San Jose. The Quakes chances look good if they can repeat their 2001 run. If the 2002 season series will be the same as it is, then Columbus might slow the Quakes down at least at home. I'm siding with the maxim that the regular season stats get thrown out the window. Also, there's the extra home game just in case. (and I dread the whatchamacallit who will be in yellow and the construction hat. ) now, who has an extra drum? Might have to fill in for the camp jumpers. Cheers!
The Metros are eliminated from postseason contention--another disappointing season coming to an end. Their downfall being the red cards to Howard and Mathis.
It's official. Crew v Quakes Wed. Short lay-over for them and a long airplane ride. I agree that it's more favorable for Quakes to have home field adv. vs Crew instead of NE. Go Quakes!
well i have Chicago and NY/NJ clothing items. I mean....what am I going to do for KC stuff? Dress up like Rainbow Brite!?!?!?
