Lineups I've seen have him on the wing, but I hope that turns out to be inaccurate. The personnel looks like it could shake out as a 4-2-2-2. Fingers crossed. Kickoff is right now on ESPN+.
First thought of the day: this does look a bit like a 4-2-2-2. Lots of positional roaming among the front 4. Second thought: it takes a real shady player to dive against a 4th-division team. Get off the ground, Selke. Third thought: ******** all of these countries that got their shit together enough to semi-responsibly have fans in the stands. Must be nice.
Not a lot to discuss through the first 15. Selke and Sargent aren't working super well together. They've intruded on the other's space a few times already. Kohfeldt needs to sort out which one of them is going to drop towards the play and which one is going to stay further forward. Or Selke and Sargent can do it themselves, but they need a little more structure. Edit: Selassie hits the post off a nice cross by Bittencourt.
Sargent gets hacked down for a Werder FK at the corner of the box. The amazing part of the play was the fact that ACTUAL FANS were at the stadium in person and whistling at Sargent for going down. Woah.
Kohfeldt is looking for a "midfielder with a striker's brain," according to the commentator. How many more strikers does this guy need jfc
On behalf of midfielders everywhere, perhaps he should be looking for a striker with a midfielder's brain.
egregious giveaway by the hot carl’s and somehow werder punish this gift by playing a back pass my god
osaka with the 20 yard shot instead of playing sargent in 1v1 with the keeper. this is definitely just like last season
Bittencourt is a creative midfielder who refuses to pass to anyone. He ********ing sucks. I wouldn't even want him on an MLS team if he played for free. Just an absolutely abysmal team player who brings down everyone around him.
Case in point: that no-hope dribbling shot from 30 yards. I can't believe (well, I can, it's Werder) that anyone got roped into paying €6.5 million for him.
This Carl goalkeeper looks like a high schooler. And he has presence of one in the box. Lots of flailing around. They should be testing him.
