Hi MLS, welcome to SLC. We hope you do well. But it won't be because of "us." Love, Utah. http://www.deseretnews.com/dn/view2/1,4382,595110018,00.html?textfield=soccer
Re: 85% in Utah say they won't support RSL at all Perhaps it was a sample of 100 people with only 3 from SLC?
Re: 85% in Utah say they won't support RSL at all they polled only 300 people IIRC...delete this thread, its way to misleading
Re: 85% in Utah say they won't support RSL at all I slam MLS for pick SLC and should award goes to Rochester.
Re: 85% in Utah say they won't support RSL at all Well, Utah is the 13th biggest state in the union, so you'd have to figure many Utahites (what do you call someone from Utah?) wouldn't make the trek to SLC. 15% of Utah's population gives them a potential fanbase of roughly 330,000 people. That's big enough to fill any stadium in the world. Nothing like misleading percentages.
Re: 85% in Utah say they won't support RSL at all for those that can't understand that...i couldn't until reading 10 times.. i think he says he slammed MLS for picking Salt Lake and that he thinks they should have went with Rochester instead... $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ like i said the thread title is misleading at best...hopefully SLC works out, i think it will, but too early to tell now, kinda how i just tried to predict MLS in 2005 before the draft, allocations, other signings, trades, etc...hahah and hopefully Rochester gets a team in 2006 and they wait to open their stadium til then...that would be awesome...
Re: 85% in Utah say they won't support RSL at all I don't think it should be deleted, just scoffed at. Tread title: 85% in Utah say they won't support RSL at all Actual quote: 85 percent of those polled who said they probably or definitely will not "probably" == not "at all"......... returns false Ergo: scoff
Re: 85% in Utah say they won't support RSL at all Well, for your information, I, too, slam pick for MLS in award Rochester. Anyway, yeah, it's a total bogus poll done by an unpaid intern at a local newspaper, cold calling people across the state. 15% is actually pretty good, considering the fact that the real marketing push won't begin for at least 4 months. They'll be just fine. It wouldn't kill them to change the name, though
Re: 85% in Utah say they won't support RSL at all Jeesh, how long do you want a title to be? Oh yeah, long enough to be CORRECT. My bad. And it just gets the conversation going. If 15% of Utahns decide to go to at least one match per year, that WOULD be pretty good. I guess it's really the "3%" who seemed really excited about the team that's a bit of a bummer.
I'm no statistician and I'm sure someone will tell me I'm wrong if I am, but: I think if they can get just 3% in just Salt Lake County to regularly attend games, that's 27K a game.
I would agree with you. 3% of any metro area over 1,000,000 or there abouts would be great. I doubt there are more than 1% of the Denver metro area that even care about the Rapids. I would love to get 25,000 people at Mile Hi per game. That would be only 1% of the metro population.
If you look at this number seriously and can say that 15% of the people polled said that they WOULD support RSL....then that is a great number. If you polled people anywhere in this country and asked them if they supported soccer of any kind, I believe that you'd be lucky to get 15% saying yes. Remember, there is a certain percentage of people anywhere who aren't sports fans at all.
Re: 85% in Utah say they won't support RSL at all Agree. The margin of error when polling only 300 is disgustingly high.
Re: 85% in Utah say they won't support RSL at all I'm not a statistician, but that isn't too bad, IMO. The presidential polls only sampled 800 or so people to get a 4% margin of error. This one had 313 with a 6.5% margin of error. That seems about right for a decent poll. You get a diminishing return on reduction of the margin of error by adding in more people after just a few hundred.
Re: 85% in Utah say they won't support RSL at all This may come as a shock, but here in Illinois, only around 100,000 of us attended an MLS game this year, or roughly 1% of the 11 million people in the state. 15% would be incredible. For that matter, I think even the Bears would think it was astonishing if 15% of the population planned to go to an NFL game. Attendance was higher than 100,000 this year, you object. But of course it was -- season ticket holders buy 14 games each. Flex plan holders go to multiple games. And many who buy individual tickets also go to more than one game.
Re: 85% in Utah say they won't support RSL at all Mormons. ok serisouly, two pages on this thread and no one made that joke?
According to that poll (which has a far too large margin of error), 3% of Utahns will definitely go to a game this season. If even 1/5 of those 3% buy season tickets, that's almost 14,000 season tickets.
This just in!!! Only .1% of Orange/LA county support the LA Galaxy *** NEWSFLASH *** We hate to interrupt your browsing, but we have some late, breaking news... This just in: A very scientific study of the percentage of Californians living in SoCal that support the LA Galaxy has just been conducted. It finds that only about 25,000 people out of 20,000,000 seem to be attending games on a weekly basis. It's troubling to note that only about .1% of the SoCal population supports the LA Galaxy (25,000 per game / 20,000,000 people)... Chicken little has also just informed me that the sky is DEFINITELY falling. We now return you to your regular posting... (Posted in the spirit of meaningless numbers, and dumb headlines...)
