About 20 minutes after we launched the strikes against Iraq the 82nd Airborne, with 1000 men, launched an operation in southeastern Afghanistan. Word from Geraldo Rivera, who's got the phone camera going, is that they're out there to meet the Taliban who claimed they'd cross back into Afghanistan when the US launched its war against Iraq. There's a live feed on Fox now on what the 82nd are doing in Afghansitan. http://abcnews.go.com/wire/World/ap20030319_2390.html
But werent we told that the Bush administration could only deal with one thing at a time? How could this be?
82nd!!!!! BADGE ON MY SHOULDER!!!! PICK YOUR WEAPON AND FOLLOW ME!!!! WE'RE THE AIRBORNE INFANTRYYYYY!!!!!
I have no idea. Do we have two armies? This is dumbfounding. Did we get an extra roll in Risk or something?
Maybe I just don't have a military brain, but, the liklihood of getting info on saddam and Osama within minutes of each other? C'mon, pretty poor. Or perhaps its just a really smart idea to move our troops. As in, "gee, a bunch of locals may be pretty pissed real soon. Let's find out what the goats on the other side of the mountain look like, cuz it makes no sense to sit here and wait for visitors" I mean, even if you have no definite target to search for, keep the other guys off guard, right?
