Thank f'ck you were at least willing to concede that. BTW, MLSNHTOWN has just murdered the pop department - and credit to you for going all out.
There's still one pop artist from the era who rivals Michael Jackson in terms of exposure, but I'm not touching it. I know it has to get picked, and I really want to see who picks it.
I think I know who you mean (and it's not even Weird Al!), although my influential sleeper is still sleeping. I was expecting to see another album gone by now, but I won't divulge anything else.
Well, since we're going backwards, I'm up again, no? 1. Plainsong 2. Pictures of You 3. Closedown 4. Love Song 5. Last Dance 6. Lullaby 7. Fascination Street 8. Prayers for Rain 9. The Same Deep Water As You 10. Disintegration 11. Homesick 12. Untitled Released 1989. Pictures of You: Lovesong: Fascination Street:
This was easy: My favorite tunes: Perfect Circle http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VmEfjfnjCBg Talk About The Passion http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwDY8AiB8BM&mode=related&search= Shaking Through ( found no video ) What's he saying? No lyric sheet. Kudzu on the cover. A dark vision, crafted by some guys from Georgia. I remember thinking that music had turned a corner. I also like 9-9, with its Gang of Four vibe.
Are you sure you want to pick that one? Excellent choice, it was in my 'A' list. My second pick coming right up.
I wasn’t sure which way to go with my second pick, but I was really into hard rock back then so... 1. Hells Bells 2. Shoot To Thrill 3. What Do You Do For Money Honey 4. Given The Dog A Bone 5. Let Me Put My Love Into You 6. Back In Black 7. You Shook Me All Night Long 8. Have A Drink On Me 9. Shake A Leg 10. Rock And Roll Ain't Noise Pollution When lead singer Bon Scott took himself too literally and got on the 'highway to hell', (actually he died from alcohol poisoning), many thought AC/DC was done. But Brian Johnson replaced him, and they came back stronger than ever with Back in Black, their best album. This band rocks! It is all about women and partying, and of course, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Everybody has heard this, of course.
Outstanding choice. I came THIS close to picking this with my second pick, but I went with Disintegration instead. I knew it wouldn't last until the 3rd round, but oh well.
I was hoping this would make it to the second round; but I didn't really believe it would. There's a segment in the "Classic Albums" installment where Paul is listening to a playback of the title track and he says quietly "This is it; this is the best I ever did, the best I can do..." or something to that effect. There is a brief flash of emotions across his face, as the arrogant side of him is momentarily, unexpectedly humbled by his achievement. He's clearly confused by his own reaction even as he is focused on telling the story of the song; and the sequence is about as telling and touching as anything I ever saw on video...
great shout. i almost took REM with my first pick but decided, perhaps mistakenly, to go with my all time personal favourite. stupidly hoped it would last through for me to select in round two.
You know it's a great draft when every post gives you goosebumps. Thanks everyone for taking me down memory lane. I'm enjoying this one. ps - The album I'd have chosen #1 is still on the board.
The Jam - Sound Affects This is the one where it all came together for them - great songs, tight production, the works. Sadly, they had only one album left in them after this one.
