BEAT v FREEDOM Post match [R]

At this point I would love to be able to post something insightfull and remotely coherent. But I'm afraid my emotional high prevents me from doing so. So instead I will do my duty as a Mia Hamm fan and say...

    WAR
    MIA
    HAMM!!!!

I wish I could of watch the game. I hear it was great. Mia must of made a huge impact when she entered the game. I was following the game on the Beat Forum.

Awesome game from Mia: takes on three defenders and scores, sends in two killer corner kicks for the other goals. I'm a believer!

Had I not seen the game I would have dismissed this as hyperbole, but I did see it and I couldn't agree more. Can you say WOW boys and girls?!? I got frustrated after Zimny's late giveaway led to the 2-2 tie (little Casey is developing bad habits, don't you think?) but then Pu Wei (Pu Wei?!?) came up with that stellar last second header off of Mia's perfectly placed corner. I mean, WOW!

All I can think is that Philly and Carolina must be shaking in their boots at the idea that they'll have to get through Mia and Co to win the cup. Ain't gonna happen!!! Mia wants that cup BAD and she's got a great supporting cast!

BTW, great to see Mak back, but she didn't really look 100%.

There's nothing to add to this. Had it ended 2-2, it *still* would have contended for best WUSA game ever; but Pu's goal clinched it.

Games like this are why I love soccer. :)

Re: Atlanta got a BEAT down!!!!!

The coaches think that Erin is better against the sort of attack Atlanta puts on (lots of headers and balls in the air).

Yes, but you probably would have needed a rest cure now if you'd watched it live. I know I just about do!

You goofed, Fear. We (Atlanta) lost, but it was really the greatest WUSA game I've seen. I would have said that whatever the final result. Atlanta kinda dominated in the first half, but when Mia came in it realy heated up (lot of action in the first half too).

I agree that Phily and Carolina better not rest on thier laurals.

For those who weren't there, the temp was 96... and those gals went full out!

I know you're not a Deadhead, Fear, but sometimes I see a certain connection between the Dead and soccer. At least in my life, soccer is the sole thing that I see over and over again, and travel to see, and memorize meaningless details about, and even get tapes of...in a way that approximates the energy I used to put into the Grateful Dead. And coming out of RFK today, I had that same feeling that I've felt at various shows that I've just witnessed a Moment: an absolute classic. It was *that* good. As a soccer fan, you simply must avail yourself of the replay.

And tape it for me. :)

P.S. Mia's goal is the greatest goal I've seen in WUSA. Hands down.

Yup! She took on and humiliated three defenders in the proccess. That second break away would have been a contender too if it hadn't been for the crossbar.

Great game. Atlanta did dominate us the first half and I was glad we held on to being down one goal. Mia changed everything. That is the first time I have seen her take on people with the dribble like that since the injury. Two amazing runs with one goal and crossbar the other. Pu and Bai score. Who should I say is no good next to get them to score??

When the beat hit the post and then were just wide before Mia's second run, I was dying!!!

Playoffs with a chance for 2nd place. Who would believe that??

I thought Siri was limping around so maybe she picked up an injury in practice Friday??

I thought the match was great. We didn't really play all that well in the 1st half, but Mia and Mak (then Jacqui later on) proved to be just the sparks we needed to put it all together in the 2nd half. Great stuff.....I hope they play at Carolina in the playoffs so I can see them play live!

Oh yeah, and the defense needs to not allow Skylar to be all alone with 6 foot tall forwards. Why were all 3 of the other defenders out from the goal when Parlow scored the 2nd??

I noticed that too -- what a mismatch! Skylar came up to her belly button. :p

I was very surprised to see Siri not even dressed for the game, but I also noticed her limping. Although I could have sworn I saw her warming up. Even though we did get the win, Fahey still makes me nervous in goal.

This was definitely an exciting game to be at. Glad we decided to go although I wasn't really up for it that afternoon. It was a scorcher and I was thankful to be in the shade.

This game showed the character of this Freedom team. They didn't roll over and die after their horrible performance in the first half -- they were being beaten to every 50/50 ball, just standing around, unable to connect on passes, and just didn't play with any heart. IMO, they were lucky to come away with just a 1 goal deficit. I don't know what was said at the half, but they were a different team. They need to keep it up -- good things happen when you work hard. Other than that, I don't have much else to add to what everyone has already said.

I did get a kick out of the post-game festivities when Abby, Zimny, Noftsinger, Millburn, and Bai Jie were using the slingshot to give away their shirts and balls. It was nice to see them let loose a bit.

Forgot to mention that the crowd yesterday was great. They were into it and cheering the majority of the 2nd half, thanks to a very loud woman and they guy walking around with the drum. I was proud of the DC fans yesterday. :D

Because Zimny made her daily bonehead play and gave the ball straight to Hooper in the defensive third, D never had the chance to reorganize.

Yea you would think she would have hustled back into the box after giving the ball away!!

Moore looked like she was going to pass out when they took her out of the game.

I asked her about that after the game, and she sort of gasped and gestured toward her lower neck - might have said something about asthma, it was hard to tell.
