I'm going to attempt to do one of these...although I'm not sure how good I'll be at it. And just to warn you in advance...I'm gonna miss the first part of the second half. I have to go pick up my daughter from her soccer team party. Anyone else who's not at the viewing party, please jump in and help out!
For anyone watching on DTV And receiving Atlanta's locals. My DTV feed for game from the Atlanta ch has had very poor audio at times in the past. It appears that CSN's feed is the same source and the audio is MUCH better.
Beat kick off an immediately begin pressureing. Foul near the box by Washington... Serlenga free kick bounces around in the box. Washinton lucky to keep that one out.
One of the twins stops a breakaway by...I'm not sure. Scurry saves a Barr shot off the Washington corner.
The comentators said the Sawa had the shot in front of the gale but I beleve it was Sunny. It is almost unbelievable that there has not been a goal from all the time the ball has been in front of the net at Washington's end. THe Washington keeper did not even need to save a shot. It never got through the defense to her.
starting lineups... Atlanta Beat -- Briana Scurry, Nancy Augustyniak, Julie Augustyniak, Lisa Krzykowski, Sharolta Nonen, Marci Miller, Sun Wen, Nikki Serlenga, Cindy Parlow, Charmaine Hooper, Homare Sawa. Washington Freedom -- Erin Fahey, Skylar Little, Jennifer Grubb, Carrie Moore, Emmy Barr, Steffi Jones, Monica Gerardo, Sarah Kate Noftsinger, Pu Wei, Abby Wambach, Bai Jie.
Serlenga's shot from freaking midfield tipped over the goal by Fahey. Corner punched out and Gerardo clears it. Nancy twin all over Bai Jie and Nonen steals it.
That was a VERY good play by the Washington Keeper. She could not control the ball and could not hit it sollidly so she hit the bottom and that allowed the ball to go high and wide by its on momentum.
I believe Washington feels that the Beat's size and type of shot is more suited to their #2. IT is not a lot of drop off even though Siri has been hot lately.
Hooper gets sandwiched near the midline. Kick results in a CP header but it's not on frame. Beat really committing numbers in the box. hooper scores!!!!!!!!!1 assisted by a miller header.
Of course Hooper's shot is the kind that Siri saves better than Fahey(sp). Atlanta is in, mostly, complete control of the game it does look like they want it more, right now.
Kryskowski fouls Wambach just outside the box...easily caught by Scurry. 18th minute now. Two players marking Hooper and she still gets a shot off...saved by Fahey
You can't contain Hoops baby! Youd think they would realise that and just form a wall in front of the goal
Nonen knocks Wamback down...near the box again. Bai Jie gets her head on Grubb's kick, but it is sorta cleared out... Dangerous chance for the Freedom. I'm no mathematician, so I don't know about the points. I think the announcers said that a win by either team would virtually clinch a playoff spot for either team.
Hooper has Washington all set up to get an assist. When she is on the ball the defense is moving to her playing her to not pass. As those of us that have watched her know she tends to pass once the options for shoting are taken away. On her last attack Sawa's defender left her and CP was 1v1. All the defenders had gone to Hooper.
Nancy twin has a beautiful cross into the box. Sunni gets a foot on it but can't handle it. Counter by Freedom and Nancy gets back in time to take it away from Bai Jie. 24th minute.
A win by either team in any game from this point on clinches a playoff spot. Both teams win the tiebreaker against San Jose and San Jose is 3 behind Atlanta and 4 behind Washington.
