That is very funny. We have a long way to go. If he thinks he is going to get a overwhelming welcome - everyone knows him - this should bring him to the task at hand.

I thought there was a dose of BS in the article as well (and I usually like Lopez). First of all, though Denilson had obviously fallen, to use his analogy from something like the Red Sox to something like the Brewers. But he was good enough to stick on in France, and the analogy breaks down because the Japanese leagues don't typically outpay any Major League team, even the Brewers.

I also thought it self serving to claim Denilson would have to play D to be successful here. Guy's a forward. If he puts it in the net or sets up his teammates, he's doing his job.

That said, the money that's probably involved here does make this a gamble (though not the worst bet ever taken in this league), and since he doesn't have that name that clicks with everyone right away, then to have any chance to justify his money, he'll either have to wow the fans with some really obvious skills, or he'll have to lead the team further than they've ever been before.

Wonder what Nicol could do if he actually had a budget?

Depends who his GM is. If he has a huge budget and Alexi Lalas I think the best Nicol could do is check himself in to an asylum.

It's Craig Tornberg, who's a knowledgeable enough guy. The real problem is who the owner is, and that's the Kraft family. Jonathan (the son) is interested in the sport but Robert (who runs the show) basically only wants something to fill his privately-paid-for NFL stadium in the offseason. They're not second fiddle to the Pats, they're fourth-chair clarinet.
