I thought I would get this thread going so we could all keep track of our favorite Portuguese players who play outside of the country. The newest ‘PA’ – Marco Caneira – was included, along with countrymen Pauleta and Bruno Basta, on Bordeaux’s roster for its match tomorrow with Strasbourgh. It is still unclear whether Caneira will see any action, since he only joined the club this week.
Xavier: Abel Xavier returned to the starting lineup for Liverpool, as the Reds rode two Diouf goals in a 3-0 victory over Southampton at Anfield. Xavier played the entire 90’ and figured in Diouf’s second goal when his long throw was flicked on by Heskey to Diouf, who scored on a header.
Surprisingly, Jorge Andrade did not play, as his new team Deportivo defeated Valencia, 1-0, in the 2002 Spanish Supercopa.
The news out of France was a little better for the Portuguese. Despite suffering a 2-1 loss to Strasbourgh, Bordeux received important contributions from its Lusos. Pauleta scored his second goal of the season (a blast from 25 meters) and was involved in just about all of the dangerous plays for Bordeaux, according to Ojogo. Caneira, his newest teammate, was a starter at right back despite joining the club ust five days earlier.
For all you Abel Xavier fans out there, the bleach blonde bearded one can be seen on Fox Sports World a couple of times this week. You can catch him today on the tape-delayed broadcast of this weekend's Liverpool-Southampton game. Check Soccertv.com below for viewing times in your area. Also, the Reds will be televised tomorrow live at 3pm EST against US keeper Brad Friedel and Blackburn. http://soccertv.com/
