Alas, no story in Today's Post, which I assume is both a bi-product of our sucking and all that is going on in the Sports world, both nationally (strike, PGA Championship) and locally (Skins, Freedom and Mystics in the playoffs, Legg Mason). Nothing in the Journal, either, but John Haydon had a piece on DC in the Times. http://washingtontimes.com/sports/20020817-21069898.htm Also found interesting his blurb at the end of the story about the Freedom leading the WUSA in attendance. The Mystics also led their league in attendance while United's attendance is down about 20 percent. Could it be that the team is getting less coverage than the 2 women's teams because their attendance is down even though the actual number of people at the United games is more than at Freedom and Mystics?
Playoffs? Playoffs? I think it could be that the Freedom and Mystics are in the playoffs of their leagues, while United can't score. Non-scoring soccer is what bashers feast on, so no news is good news in this case.
Nice to see another piece about United despite their last place showing. Also Kudos to the Washington Times for running this when we are seen on ESPN2. That's a great way to increase attendance by creating a buzz just before a nationally televised game on a major sports network so that the casual fan can tune in from the liesure of his own home. -Tron
