We'll see....i'm not sold on Canada's youth... Overall Canada is a better team, but from what i hear they brought a young team...

They still have DeRosario and several guys who play in Europe's top leagues.

Are we playing the same lineup against Cuba that we played against CR?

Is there going to be as strong of support as there was in SLC?

Is the game as important as the WCQ?

Unfortunately, there are many possible reasons why this game could be tougher than expected.

True, but Yallop's going to test youth for the future...Canada has a bright future, but at this point they are beatable by Cuba...

Well, last Gold Cup Canada brought a relatively strong team that included I believe De Vos and Staltieri, and Cuba beat them, so this Cuba team could spring a surprise, if not against us, against someone else.

trying to resist the temptation . . . trying to resist . . . resistance is futile.

With this team, blt, I'm sure you'd have no trouble scoring. ;)

Looks like some inaccurate times have been posted in this thread. The game is scheduled for 7:30 PDT in Seattle. That's 10:30 EDT.

i'm glad that the voices of reason are beginning to be heard.

cuba is a better team than some of us think. they can beat us. but that is unlikely. they can certainly tie us.

think big athletes who can run past slow poke ralston on the right side and cross the ball to another athlete who has tremendous hops. a lucky header, and we are tied 1-1 in the 85th minute.

i'm just sayin....we should win the game, but don't get too overconfident.

Okay, it's game day. So glad my little rabbit ears work on my TV and I can actually see the game!

And I am so looking forward to seeing John O'Brien on the pitch again. This should be fun.

i think usa should win this 3-1... not a blowout by any means though.

side note, i caught the t&t vs honduras game last night, and the commentator said that the winner of the gold cup would have a berth in the next confederations cup (which i knew), and also would play in the next copa america. is this true?? or did i just hear him wrong

If this was baseball, I'd be a heck of a lot more worried but Cuba is a worthy opponent in my opinion. I'm picturing a team slightly better all-around than the Panama we've seen in the qualifiers. Hopefully, we'll see some good play from whoever we trot out there and get the full result of course. It will be great to see Gooch and JOB out there again. Hopefully, we get to see Dempsey at attacking mid some during this tourney.

Do you really believe Ralston to be slow afoot? If so you are sadly mistaken. Of the players on the current US Gold Cup Roster Ralston ranks in the top 6 players in sprinting speed. In quickness he probably ranks among the top 4. The flank midfielder must possess speed as well as tremendous fitness. Without it they would never get off the bench. Most folks realize this. Believe it. Know it. Live it.

    Gold Cup Roster Sprinting speed,

    1) DMB
    2) Landon
    3) Frankie Surfer
    4) Josh Wolf
    5) Clint Dempsey
    6) Steve Ralston

As for off the ball first steps quickness,

    1) DMB
    2) Landon
    3) Frankie
    4) Ralston, Dempsey, Wolf and Steve Cherundolo are all pretty close.

    I think you've got 1 and 2 reversed, especially first-step quickness.

Whatever he shows in sprinting practice, in USMNT games, he does not show sufficient pace to be effective against top teams. Not saying he is slow, he just is not fast enough to take advantage of his technical skills against good defenders.

Sounds typical of someone with a slower first step.

    I am.

Ralston is slow. Not slow by adult male standards. Slow by top-division professional outside midfield standards. Damned slow, in fact.
