I sincerely hope that Bob Bradley will learn some lessons from this entire lousy experience. If he ever puts any of the players that we have been complaining about on our roster again, then I want him OUT!!!
I only caught the last half, but from my viewing Pearce looke pretty damn good. Good touch, good passing, should good speed in 1v1 situations, didn't get caught upfield like bornstein seems to do about 3-5 times a game.
I thought we were boring, flat, uninspired. Columbia was more entertaining to watch. They should have won the game around 3-0. They were a much better team than we were. Maybe next time we'll show up. Who knows.
Re: 7/5 USA vs Columbia Post Match Thread [R] BUt Alabama has gotta be better at American football...it's the south after all. pass the grits and put a little more gravy on the biscuits....
The other thing you have to understand about Colombia is that there are a lot of players who hate their coach and want him fired. They said in the pre-game show that Yepes, for example, said he would never play for him again after the Copa. They were hardly at full motivation--why save the job of a guy you hate?
Re: 7/5 USA vs Columbia Post Match Thread [R] This is the national team, not a professional club. Everything is about the World Cup. Oh and anyone who said this is the worst soccer they have ever witnessed by our squad clearly didn't see us in 98, 94, or 1990.
Re: 7/5 USA vs Columbia Post Match Thread [R] Bob Gansler, Steve Sampson, Bruce Arena, Bob Bradley. The tradition continues on the world stage....
Re: 7/5 USA vs Columbia Post Match Thread [R] so first we have to listen to you all bitch about how we're going to lose when we send a weakened squad to the copa... now after it happens you're still bitching? where does it end again?
In spring 2009, when they are drawing our name out of a pot with the likes of Italy, Argentina, South Africa, you'll be glad we sent our A team to the Gold Cup.
My Point EXACTLY!!! LOL! But Seriously, I'm talking about the ones that had no business whatsoever being on the team, like Twellman, Gaven, Keller (even though he's about to retire), Mapp, etc. This should be the last straw for them.
Re: 7/5 USA vs Columbia Post Match Thread [R] ...or in the 2003 Confederations Cup. Y'all need to stop acting like the U.S. has never been this bad. Fact is, our A team has looked just as bad if not worse. Remember... this was our C team.
Re: 7/5 USA vs Columbia Post Match Thread [R] When I can watch a quality U.S. performance in a meaningful game played outside the regional safety net.
Come on. Everybody needs to relax. The stated objective of this tournament for the US was to get some young guys a look and see who might be up to this level. The fact that most of this roster is not good enough shouldn't surprise anyone. We have learned some more about these guys. We know now that Feilhaber and Clark are keepers. That's probably the best thing to come out of this in the long run. As for this game, throwing all of the untested talent together in one game probably wasn't the best way to go about it. You really needed to see how guys like Pearce and Davies work with some of the better players. The biggest disappointment of this tourney for me was probably all of the playing time twellman and EJ got - guys who we already KNEW were not up to the task.
There are entire schools of teenage girls who are less pissy and emotionally unreasonable than the majority of the posters in this thread. I'm surprised most of the posts don't start with an OMG! TWSG! Blah blah blah. I'm really tempted to go back to lurk mode.
I have been defending Bob since the beginning but... not starting Davies tonight was a major mistake. That kid would have fought hard (and fought to go FORWARD) for the full 90. I hope EJ was taking notes.
