http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070514/UPDATE/705140389 and the union even seems to be going all along with the idea of teaming up with the evil minions of the world, Private Equity players, after villifying them at every chance over the last few years after they have been feasting on auto suppliers. http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070514/AUTO01/705140388 this was a good move. a deal with Magna wouldn't have worked. automakers and their suppliers in the same vertical isn't such a good idea. cerberus has the noose in place to properly advise Chrysler, but I just don't see LaSorda rallying his troops. I give him a year, maybe 18 months, before he is shown the exit door. I, personally, would love to see Lewis Campbell inserted as CEO, now only to tempt him from Textron...
You know what would be awesome? If Cerebus and the union work together to try and bring Chrysler back, rather than treating each other as enemies bent on destroying the other. The unions could focus on reasonable rates, reasonable health care, and 401k based retirements, and ignore mandated coffee breaks or guaranteed no-fire clauses. And then maybe someone at Chrysler could design a car that wasn't thought up by a middle aged white male dreaming of the 60s, that got decent gas milage and didn't blow up after 50k miles. Yeah, I know -- I'm dreaming again.
it will be up to the union to do this. the companies have been trying to move in this direction for a while, but the union has been a bit too militant. i would love to see them succeed away from the intrusive eye of Wall Street. I just can't believe there are union members out there who still think the company owes them more than they are already given.
