http://hullcity.rivals.net/default.asp?sid=959&p=2&stid=8354419 Claudio Reyna was one of the star players at the world cup two years ago and he looked the part last night, a player whose comfort and ability with the ball at his feet can virtually control a game from midfield. Their possession with the ball at feet and build up play was a joy to watch and worth the entrance fee alone, it only would have been better if another team was on the receiving end.
Great to see Reyna having a good run in pre-season. City will definately need him to survive the brutal EPL season. From all accounts I've hear and read lately is that Claudio's form, for the first time, is where it was prior to his ACL tear. I look for Claudio to have a fine season and hope that he continues to be injury free. We all know that both the US and City need him to be on top of his game.
Hope to see Reyna and ManCity on TV in the US regularly this year - Are they in any European Cup Qualifications? As much as I admire Reyna, though, his durability over a long season has always been a problem - He does best if given a rest once every 5 or 6 games - Maybe sit him out or only part-time for some of the earlier minor mid-week cup games
Playing against Hull City would make any half-decent playmaker look good. Glad Reyna gets a moment of praise. As for his effectiveness against Premiership sides...little chance he'll be an impact player.
Well, his absence do to injury certainly had an impact on Sunderland. Watching his play later last season as he regained his form I would say he had a positive impact for Man City. When Reyna was playing they had a much more consistant attack. While I don't know what your definition of "impact player' is, here are two examples of how Reyna has already made an impact in the Premiership.
Claudio gets injured quite regularly -- it will only be a matter of time now before he hurts himself again. But I don't remember him tearing his ACL -- was that his most recent injury?
Sunderland was not a good team even with Reyna, but without him they were abismal. His injury was in October and they had 10 points as of that game. They finished the year with 19. That is going from not good to really bad. Reyna played a part in them staying in the year before and his departure, IMO, played a role in the drop in form for his team, thus and impact. But of course it is debatable as all opinions are.
Right....one of the more ignorant posts I have read lately. Are you actually familiar with Reyna's career?
