Looks like this match will be on Setanta Sports home channel so hopefully some of us might see Whitbread in action... http://www.setanta.com/content/seta...content/tvschedule?open&action=&dateadjust=3& 1:30 pm eastern I think?
Re: 7/23 Liverpool -Olympiakos (Whitbread) Sure, him too! (I don't think I've ever seen him play, edited the thread title)
Re: 7/23 Liverpool -Olympiakos (Whitbread) the big question is: Does Bruce have Setanta? He'll be in Jersey hopefully awaiting the final....Surely someone can tell him to Tivo the game!
Re: 7/23 Liverpool -Olympiakos (Whitbread) There was an article awhile back about how The Bruce follows his Euro players (and prospective players). Dude has every channel that exists that may show Euro games and watches more soccer games than anyone in the US, so I assume that he has Setanta.
Re: 7/23 Liverpool -Olympiakos (Whitbread) Here’s a Grant Wahl piece from several years ago. Scroll down a bit for the part about video. Finally, Arena works his tail off. Using his wicked cool video system -- satellite, giant-screen letterbox TV and a half-dozen VCRs -- he tapes and watches every MLS game, in addition to several European games every week that feature U.S. players. He also maintains a gigantic video library of games (at least 300), which even includes Toluca-Atlas (Toluca-Atlas!) Mexican League games from two years ago. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/inside_game/grant_wahl/news/2000/09/06/wahl_insider/ Obviously, this was written before the TiVo revolution, but I’d bet dollars to doughnuts he has at least two of the recording boxes in his house.
Re: 7/23 Liverpool -Olympiakos (Whitbread) I presume that USSF also helps out in getting Arena all the tapes/videos that he wants. I recall reading an article a few years back that described how the English FA has a special department/office that can provide the English NT coach with information/video/statistics on a huge number of matches and players.
i always smile to myself when enthusiastic bs posters talk about players like holden overseas and clarke here at home and wonder if bruce is aware of them.
Re: 7/23 Liverpool -Olympiakos (Whitbread) DOUGHNUTS!!! I'll bet he's got a few boxes of those in his house as well. That would be part of the "works his tail off" bit. Just hope he remembers to change his warm-ups between home and the sidelines.
I have seen Whitbread play for the Liverpool reserves and the US U-20's and the guy sucks. Not USA national team material. He will be pulling a Karbasiyoon soon very soon and be joining a Coca League team. Simek, Whitbread, Karbasiyoon are not that great. MLS quality at best.
http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N149444050724-1053.htm "Young Liverpool defender Zak Whitbread is revelling in the role he has played in Liverpool's pre-season programme and hoping it'll lead to a more regular involvement with the first team squad..." People at Liverpool are impressed with Zak. Yes he gave up a PK yesterday but has played well all preseason. Was on the bench for the TNS Champions League matches. Bruce will give Zak a look once he gets some first team matches under his belt and I'm not talking about Carling Cup matches. If they don't sign a DC before the start of the season, he is a good bet to be right behind Sami and Carra and even if they do sign a DC he is still pretty high on the depth chart. Head and shoulders above Simek and Karboyssion....
that's good to know. he seemed like a slow-footed good passer to me when he played with the u20 team. but the guy ahead of him sami hyypia (sp) is almost a carbon copy - slow-footed good passer. so what do i know?
A) I'm pretty pissed at Setanta for not having this game up. I resubscribed just to see it. They shall be hearing from me. B) Too bad about the PK, but these things happen, even to the best defenders. If the kid is showing well otherwise, I doubt it will hurt him. C) The fact that they haven't signed another CB yet certainly bodes well for Zak, but I'll still be stunned if they don't make a move. I just don't see a team like Liverpool standing pat. D) What's going on with Philipakos and him not playing? I thought he was supposed to be contending for a place in the First XI and instead he doesn't even trave for a big preseason qame. What gives?
What in pray tell do you based THIS on? Jay DeMerit got 20 something starts in the championship, including 5 90 minute matches against Premiership teams and that's got him nowhere near "a look". A few garbage time minutes isnt gonna get it done. Whitbread is approx. 377th on the defensive "look" chart. Based on? I love newbies
