The media's anti-soccer bias is in high gear today.

Sorta surprising. Not many players go back to college when their profile is hgh enough to generate a USA Today article to announce it.

NOTICE there are ZERO ESPN articles listed! Everyone email them please and let them know they need to start covering soccer better!

Seems like good news at VB. Although just about anything was an improvement over the previous ownership.

That Brad Rock guy at the Desert News seems to have turned against RSL now. He states it is "the wrong sport entirely". Looks like the bubble is bursting for alot of initial RSL enthusiasts.

I read that piece and I'm wondering what you read.

To me, it reads as if he's ripping the RSL players for being in "the wrong sport," considering the results that they've been putting up.

Please link me to the article you read. The one in this thread seems to be ripping RSL for a lack of desire to win. You know, covering them like they are a real major league team.

Good articles about Peter Wilt and Milwaukee. The list of expansion hopefulls keeps getting longer.

A Chicago-Milwaukee rivalry would be really nice for the league. Next round of expansion: Milwaukee in the East and Houston in the West? Not bad. If the owner/investor and stadium situations are good, why not?

ESPN probably doesn't have too many actual articles either. Just AP wire stories, video, and columnists. Local newspapers are much better places to get info from.

Nice story on The Hut. Glad to see that even if it won't be sold out it'll still be over 12,000 fans. FCD has failed to draw 5-figure fans a few times this year (as have others). The fact that they couldn't hold capacity on day one was actually a shock to me.

    From this article:

To supplement their incomes, Rodriguez and his peers coach youth teams.

``Coaching pays well in this area,'' Fulton said. ``We're not saving money, but we're living fine.''

Now, for me, I believe one of the keys to success for MLS is raising the minimum salary to liveable wages, one must bear inmind that by being a pro soccer player, you have other options to supplement (or double, or triple) your income.

We should name the Cup between them now. That'd really show it to those slack-ass RSL and Rapids fans who waited until on city actually had a team. Sure any fan can start a rivalry with a team that hasn't played a game yet, but the trully hard core fan starts a rivalry with a team the might at some point play games against theirs.

Is the thread title a reference to Apollo Creed at the end of Rocky 3?

You know, somebody always says this, but I'm not that impressed when our BigSoccer daily list is longer than usual.

We have a successful USA team in the middle of a domestically hosted Gold Cup. The games are being held in LA and Boston and NY and Seattle and Miami and Houston. MLS (unlike NBA, NHL, NFL) is in full swing, coming into All-Star Weekend. And how many thousands of media outlets are there in the US?

How many articles could we pull up if we Googled Hockey or Golf? I had one eye on ESPN last night and they were showing highlights from last year's NFL season.

Yep - the focus is on coaches speaking honestly, and how it works in other SLC area sports. Thus:

"The key to motivation, though, may actually lie in the words of new Ute football coach Kyle Whittingham, who told his players when he was defensive coordinator: "If you need a rah-rah pep speech to get you going before a game, you're in the wrong sport."

Maybe that's the problem with Real.

    Wrong sport entirely."

Mostly, what RSL fans have been complaining about most of the season. Nice to see the local columnists treating us as equals in the Utah sporting scene.

Yeah, but with the ratings MLS does get (small percentages at best), I'm happy with the newspaper coverage we do have. That's why its key for the U.S. National team to get very far in Germany 06'.

Also, (and what I'm kind of worried about) IIRC, for Japanorea 02' US soccer fans got some nice media coverage about staying up till 4am at bars to see games. As if it was some freak event. :p In a way the surprisingly intense feeling soccer gives you as a fan is kind of freaky. And of course we'll have these 'us soccer fans stay up late' all over again, (this I don't fear at all) but US Soccer, has to do a REAL damn good job of PR, with not just the team, but hyping up the players.

Its very key that we get the awe and love from the apethtic non-soccer ppl to rally behind the best soccer players this country has produced. Which means only one thing, Dempsey keep rappin' y0! I want to see YOU on TRL (not that I watch or anything).
