After having talked to Waibel, seems the guys are enjoying their 2 day break before they hit the field again and prepare for the Champs to come on up. Also they're very excited and itchin' for a rematch. Can't wait for this weekend. Hopefully we'll finally be able to field our Starters and kick some @$$. Onstad Mulrooney--Bos--The Elbow--Barrett --Clark-- Davis---Mullan ---Holden -Ching--DeRo
Looking forward to this. I hope we find the back of the net WHILE throwing a shutout on the other end. We can't seem to do both at the same time these days.
I've got nothing to add to the pregame ponderings, as I know nothing about Atlante, and am thoroughly befuddled by the Dynamo's inability to score or pursue someone who can.... but, this is the match I get to see in person for my annual trip to Houston! being from New Orleans, my live matches are few and far between. Dale Dynamo!
thanks atnee for the link. since i'm Mexican i needed to know who i needed to root for. jajajajajajajajajajajaja. just messing with you. all you need to know about Atlante is that they're quick in the midfield, so expect them to go around Waibel and Barrett a couple of times. its up to Eddie & bobbyboswell.com to "soften them up" (if you know what i mean). they've also recently brought back Luis Gabriel Rey (F), formerly of Pachuca. Rey was brought in to replace Luis Angel Landin when he left, but Pachuca has done some wholesale changes so Rey has returned to the FMF team that originally brought him from Colombia. with Rey and Venenzuelan international Giancarlo Maldonado up front i don't expect the Dynamo to shut-out Atlante. which leads me to their goalie Federico Vilar (GK). if you enjoyed watching Jorge Campos & Rene Higuita back in the day then you're going to love watching this guy. to say he's aggressive and bold is an understatement. expect him to come way, way out of goal at least once during the night. he can be absolutely brilliant and shut us out or he can misjudge us and we can hit him up for 2 or 3 goals. you just never know with this guy, he even likes to take free kicks (and has scored) like Campos & Higuita. i expect a great game.
I'm hoping we come out with a nothing to lose attitude - you don't want to be stupid and desperate but as much as we want to win this tournament (and I think the Dynamo fanbase does care about this as a whole) it's not like group play at the World Cup where you carefully try to manage the games to advance. Let's get out there and try to beat some FMF squads.
the best & worst of Federico Vilar (Atlante is in white, Cruz Azul in blue): i'll try to find some videos of his brilliant saves. but expect him off his line about 100% of the night.
i think we (the Dynamo) will do OK. although i expect the 3 points to come against Chivas not Atlante. we're going to be facing a young, Omar Bravo-less (off to Spain), tired Chivas (they're on a 25 day, multi-city tour). here's Vilar at his very best. he won Atlante's 2007 championship by himself. the highlights are only 3.5 minutes and he even plays circus-seal at 3:26 mark. again expect him off his line at all times (Pumas in white, Vilar in horizontal stripes):
Atlante possibly played above their abilities to win a MFL Championship, they do show well as a unit and know how to keep possesion. Depending on how they run out their starters or bench guys and our lack of scoring it could be a tight match that sees one mistake on D that cost the first match in the group stages. On a side note, I don't know how often it has happened, if ever considering the nature of pro men's football in the rest of the soccer world, but this group stage opener is a match up of two Champions, from two different nations, involving two teams that have moved to a new city recently. Pro soccer can be wierd in North America.
With a keeper like that that plays that far off his line, it should be interesting to see how Houston's service does into the box. If they whip in some good crosses that bend away from the keeper, he could get caught out a couple of times.......
I also believe the Atlante game will be so much better, but for some reason I am more excited about watching Dynamo playing chivas, I have tickets to both games, but chivas is the one I want Dynamo to win, maybe because every fan of the other 16 teams hate chivas and america, or because I moved to Mexico City for a couple of years and witnessed first hand the way Atlante died as a team there, how they lost all of their fans, it was sad (specially after my father in law explained how Atlante was the first team that used Mexican players and how they used to be the one with the most fans), and since they moved to Cancún I just don´t feel they are the real Atlante. But regardless, I´m hoping we get to see a great game against them.
can someone with 231 tickets for this and tuesday PM me? Can't get on the TA boards from burger king's computer, and just quit working on sundays.
This is a disclaimer for Dynamo fans, don´t expect a vibrant, exciting game, Atlante is one of the most boring teams I have ever seen, and I have seen many boring teams in my life, you never know, sometimes boring teams have exciting games, but chances are it will be boring, Atlante´s championship (they still have the same strategy) was based on not letting the other team play and try to capitalize an error. Having said that, I´m not saying you shouldn´t go, I will be there, I will be there because the other team is the Dynamo, because it is a chance to see a game against a foreign team in a game that hopefully they will take more seriously than atraining match, a chance to see a team that won their league championshio one tournament ago and a chance to see the Dynamo against a different kind of team.
Before you head to the Atlante game on Saturday, the U-18s are going to play a match against FESA at Carl Lewis Field at 6:15 p.m. Paul Dalglish is a Dynamo Academy coach and has asked for fans to stop by and show support. Parking lots for Robertson open at 5, so if you get there early go enjoy a U-18 match and come back to the Rob for tailgating. More information on the partnership between Dynamo and FESA is here.
I too have no aspirations of walking away from this one with a win. Given our tepid attacks with a failure to finish and our complacent predictable mid field, we will be doing good to get a point out of this one. Chivas is not the team it was of recent past and we should have a great turn out for this one. The home field advantage (may not) be there. There are a lot of Chivas Guad. supporters in this city. I do expect that we , will bring out our best starting eleven for this one. B. Boswell.com is becoming a stud and won't allow too many forwards to get through. Gotta hope e.Rob will be ready to return . De-Ro and Ching up front will provide a number of shots. Hopefully Mullan and Davis will work the wings where there is the most promise for breaking down the Atlante backline with the crosses that have been absent this season so far.
