Finally someone give us something we've been clamoring for and it's not even on the big list: Soccer - More American than Baseball http://slate.msn.com/id/2103170/
Okay, it's from April 25th, but this is where all the unfounded rumours and "sources" about the Wizards non-move seem to have started. This is astonishingly bad journalism. http://www.democratandchronicle.com/sports/columns/0425SU41LLQ_sports.shtml

You think that's bad? Check this out! RITCHIE HEADS FOR BIG APPLE http://www.sportinglife.com/footbal...TORY_NAME=soccer/04/07/01/SOCCER_Ritchie.html And this link, that if you opened it up MINUTES ago said the opposite (and still does if you look it up on google's summary) Ritchie rejects MetroStars http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/w/walsall/3857045.stm
Wow, that's an interesting little conflict over the Scottish player. I'll bet he's expecting to be heralded as a big star by the supporters.
In other news, two of Sportscenter's Top 10 Plays from yesterday were soccer plays - the GW goal in the Rapids/Metros game and Portugal's bomb (#1). The Rapids' goal was behind footage of a moose running wild through the streets of some town, but that was just because they're required to do that under terms of the Broadcasters Keep Soccer Down Act of 1997.
It's a little known fact that the B.K.S.D.A. '97 was signed by members of the American Broadcasters Association at a secret meeting in Area51, according to my mailman at least.
They've also been doing edited highlight packages of Euro 2004. In fact I learned of people calling for Beckham to resign from the English national team from Sportscenter. Clearly their in violation of said act and will be punished by the proper authorities. They certainly are putting up a valiant act of civil disobediance though, or clearly someone's asleep at the wheel.
The moose was overrated. They'll have to search a long way to find something that tops the bear landing on the trampoline.
Maybe you could do a small bit of journalism on this topic. Having something one way or the other in your employers publications on the topic of the rumours of the Wizards (non) move might help to cut some of the hysteria.
If it ain't true, hysteria isn't going to make it true. If it is true, journalism isn't going to keep it from happening. Might make you feel better. But you're not going to keep hysterical people from being hysterical. Just don't get hysterical yourself.
