Move the Revs now!!! I saw at least 2 or 3 empty seats. If the Boston area was really a soccer town, there'd be no seats empty at all.
One thing that struck me was how before the game they were showing pictures of the crowd. Of course they chose to show the one section of the stadium in which half the seats were empty. (I suspect that it filled in later as folks trickled in.) Mind you I'm not reading anything conspiratorial into that choice but for the life of me I couldn't figure out why they would choose to show that one particular view.
agreed, they were loud in the beggining and granted it was pretty defensive, but YOUR TEAM IS IN THE FREAKIN MLS CUP AND YOU GET TO WATCH IT LIVE! Damn you don't know what I'd give to watch the Burn in a MLS Cup game in Dallas...
I thought the noise level was quite good but in all the crowd shots they showed, most people were sitting on their hands and quietly watching the game.. By the way, was the main ABC cameraman drunk or what? That dude was all over the field missing all sorts of action....
I went to two nats games this year, one in Birmingham and one in Foxboro. The 24,000 in B'ham outcheered the 40,000 in Foxboro. I htought today they were somewhat louder than normal. But it is true that the Big Razor is very open-air with little to hold the noise in.
It was a very quite crowd on the average, when something exciting happened they made a ton of noise, but during the other spells they were damn near silent. And like Alexi said, when the other fans aren't cheering, they're cheering for the Galaxy.
61k is freaking awesome! Kudos to the New England faithful for showing up in such force! I was told that with the luxury boxes--which MLS did not have the rights to sell--that the maximum attendance is 68k. I don't know what the maxium capacity is without those boxes, but it sure looked like a full house on TV. The Bob Euker seats up on the third deck were totally packed. Great job! -Tron
Yes, the crowd was very quiet. And I've been talking about the acoustics at Gillete Stadium sucking since I went there a couple of weeks ago. Why on earth did the designers make the stadium so shallow. It's like being at a flat field with no stands, and people crowding around the pitch. Honestly, people may make noise, but it won't be intense at all as most of the volume will dissipate. Anyway, I thought the combo at the end by LA was very very well executed.
There were people staning on the Bridge on the opposite of the light house. It seems pretty full to me. Good Job New England for getting there.
What's with the open end on the left side of the stadium? I know some stadiums have a open end to the field but that thing is huge. I cannot wait until there is a copy of a english style stadium for a mls team.
I think you should cut the crowd some slack for being quiet. The game was very conservative and defensive. They play was very slopp too. I'm sure if the revs had more than a few shots on goal they would have been louder.
As one who was there, I didn't think the crowd was that bad, especially when you consider that there were probably a lot of people there seeing their first Revs game. The crowd got into it at the appropriate moments. I still can't get over the fact that 61,000 people thought it worth their while to spend the cash to come. It says a lot about the support for soccer in NE.
I heard it was $25 to park? True or false? It was still great to see 61,000+ watch a soccer game, even if many are them are casual or curious fans. Man, one would think that a NFL game was being played.
the crowd kinda reminded me of this girl i dated years ago wow was she great to look at but when she opened her mouth not much of anything came out it got boring fast
Security swept the Fort of people and people who shouldn't have been in a standing section were in there. I believe if the Fort was able to go, the rest of the stadium would have followed. It's unfortunate to have the home field advantage and to have the crowd really taken out of the game.
I want to concur with a few others. That stadium has about a pour acoustics as any I've ever been in. There is nothing to hold the sound in. You can scream all you want but no one can hear you.
The lack of crowd noise has been a problem all season. It's not for lack of trying. The acoustics suck compared to the old 'Boro. I usually sit at the top of the Fort and I can barely hear the Riders. It's not like they're not as nuts as last season. The sound just kind of evaporates. Strange.... RC
From inside it, the crowd was very loud at times, though not consistently so. From where I was (a few rows behind Sigi the Whale) I couldn't hear the ref's whistle for most of the overtime. The noise on the TV broadcast is all about the accoustics and what they do with the effects mikes, and we had no control over that.
