Soldier Field? Why not CHicago Fire place?

 

Pumped. I am already lining up friends to go the Chicago game with.

 

I attend the University of Wisconsin. I am gunna start up a group here. I am thinking I will end up coming with about 50 students, hopefully.

Is there a link that confirms the match is at soldier field? Because if the match isn't I think that would hamper a lot of us from attending.

 

hopefully they promote the qualifier this time.

Putting Honduras in Soldier Field is a money-grab by the USSF without considering the good of the team.

 

Yeah. I'm a little pissed that they're doing this. They certainly aren't looking out for the best interest of the fans and team on this one. Honduras has probably the best following in this country of the hex opponents after Mexico. I expect a crowd of around 50k with a 50/50 split. If you put it in Toyota Park, you would get a breakdown similar to what we get at Crew Stadium vs Mexico at worst.

 

USMNT will be lucky to get 50/50 support....more like 70/30... It will be an epic battle...similar to the 01 Honduras game at RFK...

 

Yep... we have been following the news out of Miami, Fl and I tell you, there are thousands and thousands making the trip to the game from this far. I imagine this is the case from all over the nation ( well, at least the east coast) . Now, I read someone saying that "it will be nasty, nasty, nasty" ... this is not so. Honduran fans are one of the best behaved fans in the country. We are very respectful and law abiding. There will be plenty of noise and support ... that you can expect. Can't hardly wait.

If you look at DC '01 or the Gold Cup Final a few years back, I think the answer is yes, or close enough to it.

I stand by my description of what happened to U.S. fans in the lower bowl of RFK in 2001 who were drenched in beer, spit, urine, soda and everything else by the Honduran fans in the upper deck as "nasty".

Putting this in a major metro area in a giant stadium is incredibly irrresponsible--at the very least, detrimental to the team and any semblance of home field advantage. At worst, another DC '01 or worse.

At least Columbus was 50-50. This will be 70-30 Honduras, if not more.

 

Works out perfect for me. My sister lives only 2 blocks away from Soldier Field. Won't be that far of a drunken journey.

 

Definitely going to this game. I know it won't be for a while, but can anyone give me a rough estimate of when tickets will go on sale? thanks...

 

I sure hope so. My most negative experience has been at a US/Honduras match, with beer being deliberately thrown at my back. On the plus side, other Honduras fans confronted the beer thrower for me. I know there are stupid fans from everywhere; so I am hoping for the best this time around.

 

Are Honduans that wealthy that they can go wasting $8 beers all game long? Getting drunk is more important to me than dousing the other team's fans with a tasty beverage.

 

Grow up USA fans -- we've got almost every starter playing in Europe now, despite the score, the match in Columbus was the most one-sided USA victory I've seen vs. Mexico. If we can't handle the lesser CONCACAF teams in the home USA matches even with a 50-50 fan split, how can we expect to go ton San Salvador, Mexico City, or San Jose, CR and come away with victories? The fans aren't playing the games, the players and coaches are.

Stop assuming the other fans are our enemies. If you'd take a minute and talk to them like real people, you'll find out the the vast majority are soccer lovers, too, and they respect the rivalry and the competition. There are hooligan types in every bunch, some more than others, but don't let their antics color how you approach the average opponent's fan.

Is there really that many Honduras fans out there who will travel up to chicago?? You'd think the strong following of the USMNT in chicago would be enough to have a simple majority.

It don't matter, supporters section will still be rocking.

We aren't going to get 50%.. not even close

Honduras fans show up. 2001 in RFK is the most obvious example but the 2005 Gold Cup Semifinals in Giants Stadium was far worse. If the US had 5% of the fans at that game I would be shocked.

I can't believe Soldier Field is the best we could do
