Ummm so... he would be taking Twellman's roster spot correct? I want to make sure I have my information correct before I go and slit my wrists over this team's inability to make decent and well though out signings.

Because it isn't every day that you can sign a a hard-working central midfielder who the club believes can grow in their system as if it was a petrie dish.

And he's English, so he has a funny accent, so you just know he can play.

He ceertainly likes a tackle, can move with the ball at hos feet and can hit one from distance.

Looks pretty good and certainly has some potential.

Well, at least the 24-man roster is now full of players that actually have a chance to see the field.

But if this is the last roster move of the summer, I'll be applying for membership with the NNNs.

Don't you think you might want to wait till you see him on the field before you write him off?

No, Burnsie said this is a player "who can grow in our system." I don't want another project, I want an impact player, I want one now, we have enough players "growing in our system". We don't need development at this point and we don't need unproven talent, we need someone who has a track record of success and that is it plain and simple, anything else is just a continuation of the same policies of this FO that have gotten us nowhere and done nothing b ut let this team fall.

Well, the glass half full view on this is that we're overloaded with midfielders and hardly any of them are indispensable. If we manage to scare up another forward, we can easily discard some chaff.

I'd love to hear that this guy can play in the middle alongside Shalrie.

I'm not against the signing of Griffiths and knew it was only a matter of time after the players union salaries were released last week and he was on the team.

However, I'm quite peeved that we freed up nearly half a mil and a roster spot and didn't use it on a DP considering how many prime candidates are set to flood the market after this World Cup.

Yes - you nailed it I think (glass half full). Positives:
    1) He could displace Phelan/Niouky and partner Shalrie in the middle of the park. Having one of those two off the field is addition by subtraction.
    2) He's young, cheap, and hungry (hopefully).
    3) If he goes the route of Dorman, has a good career with the Revs then gets sold to a British club the Revs could have a net gain from yet another draft pick.
    4) It's not an empty roster slot; makes me feel a little better about not signing the veteran Serb d-mid trialist.
    5) The Revs can still cut a guy like Videira and sign a forward.

    Glass half empty:
    1) What did you expect? This is New England, where DP stands for Draft Pick.
    2) We are rebuilding this year and with Twellman on ice that's the FO's white flag for this season. Might as well evaluate young talent, play out the string and see where we end up.
    3) As has been maintained, Ralston was our big signing of the summer guys (I would LOVE to be wrong about this).

I am genuinely willing to give this guy a chance and see if he can pull a Jeff and play himself into a starter's role. If nothing else he is apparently good at taking penalties, having scored 8 in his career at UK. What have we got to lose?

I think he's referring to the money freed up from putting Twellman on the season ending injury list.

What money? Placing a player on injured reserve doesn't free up any of his salary.

Thread jacking but the MLS should cut us a break on TT's salary I mean 400,000 x 2 seasons. At least allow us $200,000 to sign a DP. We could change him to DP status and buy down his contract

Good idea. But that requires creativity and initiative, 2 qualities in short supply in Foxboro.

    Sigh.

The Revs don't need anothe project player at this point IMO. Nicol has to be overwhelmed with young players to develop. Mariner is not around to help out. Hungry JG may be, but the fact he hasn't had a job since playing last fall for KY tells me enough teams here and abroad thought the guy can't cut it.

I want a guy like KC got:

    Eiður Guðjohnsen

    1998–2000 Bolton Wanderers 55 (18) 2000–2006 Chelsea 182 (54) 2006–2009 Barcelona 113 (19) 2009– Monaco 11 (0) 2010 Tottenham Hotspur

Seconded. Do we really need another guy who will be good, maybe, in a few years? I don't think so. They need to get the lethargic fanbase and the wider, uninterested sports public to take notice with a name impact player.

He hasn't signed yet, they've officially offered him a contract. Spurs have also offered him a contract, so we'll see what he does. However, just going after the guy is bringing the Wizards media attention. They told their fans about this now, like "see? We're trying here!"

Hell, they did it on BigSoccer, funny enough.

We get Jeff Lemieux (a good guy, and nothing against him) wondering if anybody's heard of this band he likes. We only hear about things well after they've happened, or should I say they don't happen (Pauleta, Fowler).

Because they can open a spot if they need one later.
I really doubt that the signing of Griffiths has any bearing on their signing a DP, one way or the other.

True. I really doubt that that my grandmother buying a $500 savings bond has any bearing on her buying a Porsche, one way or the other. ;)
