The Good: ......searches, searches..... OH... they got their first game under Hyndman out of the way.

The Bad: Possession, passing, set-play defense, the game, pretty much.

The Ugly: This is what we've got to look forward to for another 17 times in-season, plus at least one Cup match (can this team beat a USL club right now, seriously?), oh, and the Real Goats game.

    What-the-fcuk-ever.

I didn't get to see it but was it really that bad? I mean losing to New York is like losing to San Jose at this point, maybe worse, but what went wrong. did the new formation cause trouble? Just curious.

it was basically the same team that showed up when morrow was coaching. looked lost w/ the ball, can't string together passess, deep balls from the backline and wagner turning the ball over.

it was a rather pathetic performance, IMO. but hey, at least we know brek shea can play...only thing is, not for us.

They had real problems with the surface. They all ran to the near post for the goal – WTF!! It was painful to watch – but on to the next game. I hope the new coach can step up to the MLS and give us some success. Some guy’s the bar told me he has been really successful at SMU (what level is that?). Personally, I don’t give a shit – this is a new challenge at the highest level in USA soccer – good luck to him!!

What you missed was a Sala comedy of errors on the corner when the goal was scored. Could have been a draw if not for that. Not exactly sure what he was doing on that, went to the ball and went right past it, a ball that was maybe 7 feet off the ground he easily could have gotten a hand to, or caught if he had properly kept his position, you don't charge the ball and not make an attempt on it, at least try and whiff.

Bad loss, must be better vs. Houston. This team still needs Dax at 100% to partner with Rocha in midfield to make the team work. You also missed AA coming in and doing absolutely nothing, again.

I'll give Schellus a pass on this one missing 2 defenders and Dax not being 100%.

Without Sala it would've been 3 or 4-0 he had some incredible reflex saves tonight. That one on Wolyniec late practically pulled the ball out of the goal.

The first half was a disaster, and the second half wasn't much better.

Toja is running around like a chicken with his head cut off, making terrible passes (so is Ricchetti, which blows my mind)...

Sala definitely misjudged the goal by a mile, which he has now done several times this season.

Oduro was effective, and Cooper made nice runs but ended up running about 20 miles during the course of the game. That cannot continue.

Rocha was man of the match, without question.

    Davino is doing better...

Abe didn't have the impact he had in the early part of the season. He has now gone about six games without putting in a decent performance.

This team needs to get back to basics...

AND STRING SOME DAMN PASSES TOGETHER, WILL YOU? JEEZ!!!

I know the pitch is crap, but they had time to prepare and learn the pace of the ball...

And I bet Duilio will never make the mistake of making a sliding tackle on astroshit again (bet his thigh still burns like fire)!

This game needs a freaking do-over! (He said while wearing a paper bag over his head)

Possibly the worst FCD performance ever, against a team that was lacking its top three players! Ouch!

If 2 starting defenders are out, why switch to a formation that requires an extra defender? Sticking to the 3-5-2 with both Moor and Serioux out should have been a no-brainer decision. Posession in the midfield might have actually been existant with an extra man there too.

Unless of course that extra man was Alvarez. What a waste of space he's become.

WTF? I missed the game...but is this true about Saragosa at LM? I thought I read somewhere that SH watched/attended many of the FCD games. Is there something I am missing in Saragosa's game? Did Rhine start too? Wow - I am getting more and more happy that I missed it. How frustrating...

if sala wants to wear a pair of socks like that, he better not mess up a corner kick the way he did...
cooper didn't show much. it seems that ever since bradley said he lacks pace, he's been trying to run around to prove how quick and agile he can be. meanwhile his target forward position gets left out. of course last night if he had waited for service, he would have been standing there all night.
i liked richetti in front of the defense, but rocha didn't create going forward, imo. tojas and saragosa did their bit, on the whole. oduro can't miss like that volley, especially this kind of game. you've got to be 'clinical' with your chances, as they say.

but i also wanted to make another comment... watching fcd warm up at giants stadium, i thought that you rarely see such a lackadaisical pre-game routine. a couple of guys kicking the ball with their buddy. then some shots on goal. one puny drill with the trainers. (compare to the pre-game routine of dcu, for example, which is very structured). and watching fcd warm up i was thinking that's also the way they play. there needs to be some tightening up of this team, imo..

btw-i saw a hyndman interview where he said all the right things and sounded very reassuring, but he looks a bit old to be a 'rookie' coach.

Everyone forgets the incredible save Sala made before that, but I know thats not an excuse.

Well hopefully this shows SH that he has a lot of work to do. Same old FCD, beat one of the best teams in the league and then go back to suck mode against a crap team...

Thats what the goalkeeper is supposed to do. come up with big saves on occassion and don't make stupid mistakes that gift goals to the opposition. Sala gifted the win to NY by his horrible decision making on that corner kick thus negating anything positive he did.

I would certainly question the decision to sub out Rocha (6 assists) instead of Saragosa (0 assists) when an equalising goal was sorely needed.

That was as bad an offensive performance as this team has done all season - and that is saying something.

    Way to lower the bar.

    That game was ugly.

If you don't score, you don't win. Allowing a single goal on the road should be enough.

Yes, we told everyone our game plan prior to the match, and Osorio countered the announced 4-4-2 build up plan w/ high pressure and the cooperation of Terry “I see nothing” Vaughn. But Schellas said that this is his “Evaluation” Phase, so let’s evaluate.

Firstly, if Schellas even Tivo’s the occasional game he should know much better. It was as though last week someone introduced him to this team and gave him a roster to look over. Come on man. Yes we can be patient as fans, but you didn’t do your homework and it showed.

    EVALUATING THE FULL BACKS
If you are going to go 4-4-2 with penetrating outside backs, you first need to get a couple MLS quality outside backs. While Wagner can play on the defensive side of the ball, (whenever he doesn’t turn his back on a throw in), he is not the least bit creative. While he is marginally better than Serioux in possession of the ball, he is not a guy you want making decisions with the ball north of the midfield. Bobby Rhine has not ever had a worst first half in any Dallas uni than he did yesterday. He was a turnover machine in the possession, and lost his marks every chance he could. His attempts to go forward into the attack were about as clueless and pathetic as I have ever seen. Does he not understand how to read the movement of the ball and the switches to know when to advance and retreat? If we took even a moment to watch and learn from NY’s Van de Bergh, maybe that would be a start on how that position should be played. (Hint, hint, Chicago is having a discounted fire sale on a slightly used outside back.)

    EVALUATING THE MIDFIELD CREATIVITY
I am most disappointed with Schellas in the piss poor choices he made in the midfield. Again, if he had even bought the Cliff Notes on what has been happening with this team, Schellas wouldn’t need to put us through the same misery. Toja is NOT a freakin creative center mid. He is either a left midfielder or a defensive mid. He is a ball winner that can quickly start a counter attack with his penetration on the dribble. He has never been a “show for the ball”, “back to pressure”, type of guy that knows how to get unmarked. Toja lacks the vision to make those deep diagonal switches. And, yes we have a guy that might fit this role in Dax McCarty. We also have a guy that can spot substitute in this role: Andre Rocha.

Playing a diamond shaped midfield, when Bobby wasn’t giving away the line passes, Ricchetti was able to pick off the diagonal balls played inside. But, he and the rest of the team persisted in playings vertical balls to marked players who would get whacked and lose the ball. Why not play the diagonal balls since you have diagonal support in your midfield? Did Saragosa complete a single pass tonight? Rocha was the only mid that looked half way acceptable. I blame poor preparation and poor prior evaluation on this disaster.

    EVALUATING THE GOAL KEEPING
Does the staff work on goalkeeper distribution or is Sala just dumb? And, the corner kick goal conceded was of recreational quality. Why does a professionally trained keeper turn a curly cue inside and around run w/ butt to ball chasing a ball that he initially steps towards without even gauging? I don’t see any evidence of basic footwork practice. And, if the back post is going to be left unmanned, you must be back post conscious. Any college D-II keeper puts a hand to that ball to clear it away. And yes, Pitch got caught too far inside and was too weak on the play as well.

    EVALUATING THE FORWARDS
We know Oduro can run. What the hell did you ask him to do? Why did you post him up butt towards goal? If you ever watched him, you know his first touch stinks. We need him side on in diagonal playing balls through to a central Kenny Cooper. Oh wait, KC decided to do his his peek-a-boo hiding routine on the flanks.

In desperation we went back to the SOS (same old sh!t). 3-5-2 w/ Arturo the vanishing man, slow Abe, little Dax doing heavy defensive duty, and direct balls out the touchline. Actually the SOS looked more promising than the start.

Don’t get me wrong. As a fan, I can be very patient and supportive. I can understand a period of evaluation and adjustment. But, as a fan I also expect the paid coaching staff to come in better prepared and knowledgeable about this team than those of us in the peanut gallery. And right now, that is obviously not the case.

maybe you're a little harsh on some points.
toja played wider, rocha was in the middle. rocha did less then toja in the game. i agree that toja is not a playmaker, but his talent does show through.

you're right about sala. he made two fine saves, one very early and one very late. neither, imo, in the 'miracle' category. and the misread on the corner was awful (he played it like it was short). can't make a blunder like that. you're spot on to note that the defender on goldthwaite has some responsibility as well.

cooper played out of position, but i think it's done on his own. he's trying to show some 'speed.' oduro was pretty useless.

but i got home from gs in time to hear hyndman's post-game interview. very interesting. "we got outworked. maybe it's a conditioning issue, maybe it was the road game..." i don't know fcd up close, but to me this team has a conditioning issue. and can anyone get some of these guys to buy into working harder?

Only our team could make awful NY look good. Switched from Red Bull to Absinthe at half-time. No possession or consistent run of play. How does Sorrygosa get to start? Back to the cellar of the western conference with expansion San Jose. Ugh?!
