Important match tonight for the Menace. It's their chance to give payback to Boulder for giving them their first loss of the season and first regular season loss in 24 matches in the first of two games between these teams this weekend, the other is Sunday. After thumping Sioux Falls 5-2 let's hope they have their head back in the game. They are going to have to pressure things well especially on the right side which seems to be their strength. I expect Boulder to play bunker ball again. Defense is going to have to play much better and watch the over the top balls on the counter which is how they scored last week. As always post results when you find them :)

    110 minutes...

They played for 110 minutes and ended in a 1-1 draw although BRR had most of the play and chances per eyewitness reports. BRR scored first on a corner that was headed in by centerback Joe Lampert. DM scored early in the second half off of a cross that was headed in. I don't have many more details but it should be interesting to check the stat's on the game when they are available. BRR holds a 1-0-1 head to head advantage with round three Sunday afternoon. These are obviously two very good teams that deserve good things to happen for them this season. It should be another great game Sunday.

    BOU: Lampert (Folbrycht) 35
    DM: Jones (Kabwe) 49

No lineups or stats yet.. but chalk up another goal for Jones and assist for Kabwe [IMG]

Doesnt look too dominating to me.. looks like you need new sources ;)

    Code:

     Des Moines Menace 1 0 0 0 1
     Boulder Rapids Reserve 0 1 0 0 1
    Shots
     Des Moines Menace 2 10 0 0 12
     Boulder Rapids Reserve 3 3 0 2 8

     Des Moines Menace 0 2 0 2 4
     Boulder Rapids Reserve 1 3 0 1 5
    Fouls
     Des Moines Menace 1 1 0 0 2
     Boulder Rapids Reserve 8 5 0 0 13
    Offsides
     Des Moines Menace 1 3 0 2 6
     Boulder Rapids Reserve 1 0 1 0 2
    Corners
     Des Moines Menace 4 1 1 2 8
     Boulder Rapids Reserve 2 2 1 0 5

Shots 2-3 in the first then 10-3 in the second. Probably from the bunker ball. Looks like we got hacked to death too. Corners 4-2 in the first, and 1-2 in the second, even 1-1 in OT1, and 2-0 in OT2.

    Agreed

I agree, it looks like it was a war to me. My source has a financial interest in the team and that may cloud his view of what controlling/dominating is. I think these are two very good teams going at it and niether is going to get much of an edge on the scoreboard. I too would love to see the game Sunday.
One comment on the shots in the second half, DM had 10 but only put 3 on frame so I doubt many were dangerous. I agree that BRR fouls far too much and it's interesting that it's their forwards that do most of the fouling not the defenders as you would suspect. As we all know stat's only tell part of the story and none of us who didn't actually see the game can see much more than we already have so let's see what happens Sunday.

    Big Game Sunday

I was at the game and it was a tale of two halves. Des Moines dominated the play, but Boulder scored again on a corner, deja vu of last week. Then in the second half Boulder dominated and Des Moines scored on a very nice header from the 18. First half was very dull soccer as both teams seemed sluggish. The overtime was very excitiing, as Boulder pushed and Des Moines tired. (In all fairness I think it was the altitude). Boulder had three point blank opportunities in the overtime that barely missed. I think the scoreline reflects the game. Interesting to see the foul count, no hard fouls in the whole game. For a while thought I was watching basketball as the ref seemed to be calling a lot of hand checking. I will report after the game sunday.
