Bridgeview's goal: To land Chicago Fire Known Sites submitting Bids: 1. Elgin at Randall Road 2. Elgin at State 3. Hoffman Estates 4. Itasca 5. Somewhere in Chicago 6. North Aurora 7. Bridgeview 8. Woodridge
Re: Bridgeview's goal: To land Chicago Fire There are at least four more bids. The total number was cited as a dozen in a recent article. They vary from the good (Bridgeview, with the exception of transit options) to the unlikely (North Aurora, no money, no land owned by the city, very far away). Of the sites openly discussed, Bridgeview and Itasca are probably the top contenders (Itasca because of it's transit options and location, Bridgeview because of everything else). Chicago is vastly preferred by a vocal group of city dwellers without cars, who swear they'll quit the team if they don't get a stadium in the city. Originally, people thought there was a Naperville bid, but they've publicly announced this week that they are not submitting a bid, they're going to try to build a convention center and hotel instead. The Elgin sites are near I-90, the other sites haven't been described in detail publicly. Peter was in the Fire forum asking for comments on the Bridgeview site...that may be an indicator that it's the best of the sites that have been reported on so far. The team may have reasons for not disclosing the other sites just yet.
Re: Re: Bridgeview's goal: To land Chicago Fire Whoa, whoa. I think that may be more than a little unfair. I think Chicago has to be listed along with Itasca and Bridgeview simply because it was mentioned specifically by the team and press, the bid has been verified independently, and they were among the FIRST to submit a bid, which tells me they're serious about this. Just because there are a couple people that have upset you by saying the above, don't paint all those who live in the city or nonadjacent burbs as being that way. I don't think it's too incendiary to say, generally speaking, the team's potential is much higher were the stadium in the city or an inner ring burb (like Itasca or Bridgeview).
Re: Re: Re: Bridgeview's goal: To land Chicago Fire Well, I don't know about you, but I don't know anything about the Chicago bid except that it's in Chicago. That doesn't make it openly discussed to me. They didn't upset me, per se. Any more than it upsets me to hear certain people rant about Women and Title 9. They're all madmen. Getting overly bent about such things would be so last week on Bigsoccer.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Bridgeview's goal: To land Chicago Fire It's been mentioned specifically in nearly every article any stadium bid has. It's serious, as it's been independently verified and they submitted it right away. This is all at least par with what we know about the Itasca bid. Plus, like it or not, it's Chicago, it immediately gives it some more cache than any other bid locationwise, if it's anywhere near CTA. You may not like it, but it's just a fact. PW himself spoke of the importance of the stadium being accessbile easily to public transit. Of course, these are all visions on paper right now, but the team has to take seriously any real bid that comes from City Hall.
Hey, I'm down with Chicago. I realized from the get-go I was on borrowed time with the Fire playing 10 minutes from my house. As long as it's a nice soccer-specific stadium, I'm all over it. The Magic City needs a pro soccer team (Birmingham Business Journal - registration required) - weren't we just talking about Birmingham last week?
Re: Re: Bridgeview's goal: To land Chicago Fire Wow. I guess I haven't been following things as close as I usually do. This is fabulous. Even if some of the bids are weak, a DOZEN. Seriously. How many does that compare to ANY other MLS team? Dallas supposedly had 'others'... but other than the evaporation in ... wherever that was, everything was pretty much silent. Think about it. This is totally cool. I can't even think of a baseball or football or basketball or hockey team that's had this many locations vying to build a stadium for them. There are advantages to small stadia.
