http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A37643-2003Mar3.html The poll found that 59 percent of respondents favor using military force against Iraq, even without the support of the U.N.
As you might expect, Elder isn't being faithful to the text. (I AM the Truth Detector!!! Excellence in posting!!) So the title to this thread ought to be "61% oppose Bush policy," right Elder? I'd love to see the way this question was phrased. Was it a thumbs up, thumbs down, with a follow up question about "do you have reservations"? Or was it a Goldilocks question? The graph I quoted suggests the latter, IMO. Anyway, there's another fascinating aspect to this poll. The young skew toward the "no reservations" end of the specturm, the old toward the "no war" end. I suspect that people old enough to remember Nam are more skeptical of gvt. pronouncements of an easy war with a helpful peace.
actually insert "ask how many support a war if ground troops are involved and the number drops closer to 40%"
It's amazing the Truth Detector didn't sniff out the giant pile of dogshit you posted concerning NY Times' charge of a supposed "shift" a couple of days ago. Anyway, even I have reservations. It's war - there should be concerns, reservations, conditions. So, I'm not sure what your point is. It was this way during Vietnam as well (I saw some old polling data on this a few months back). Younger people tend to be more hawkish than older folks. Granted, the longer the war went on, the more the support eroded, but this trend isn't new. This probably has little to do with it.
You all seem to be overlooking the most interesting part of that article: "Surveys conducted since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks have consistently shown that a majority of Americans favor military strikes against Iraq." Why the hell is that a relevant date to begin taking account of U.S. support for bombing Iraq? What percentage favored it on Sept. 10, 2001?
Ah, and now we can understand Axis Alex, mannyfresh, and irish! Drumming the beat for war on BS Politics between viewings of "D2: Mighty Ducks."
Yes, but the difference is they're educated, or atleast they seem to be. It's the poor bastard from the hills of West Virginia or the cotton farm in Mississippi that's going to die anyway, not them.
73 percent of Americans think the government is keeping important information about UFOs secret. Source: ABC News poll, 1997.
Re: Re: 59% support war WITHOUT UN approval. When asked this question, the conspiracy-laden brain of SuperDave immediately checked the yes box.
> conspiracy-laden brain of SuperDave What in the world does it take to be recognized as the leading conspiracy-theorist on this board, a letter from the TriLateral Commision?
Oh, hell, I have a groupie. Karl, I don't swing that way. Not that there's anything wrong with it....
