Wow! No offense to Columbus but that's what I call a Soccer Specific Stadium. Wish I could be there opening day. Congratulations
Well I still will give congrats to Columbus for what they did with their stadium for atmosphere at the USA v. Mexico qualifier. They made it the greatest soccer stadium that day. If we can match and surpass that someday, we can claim more.
That stadium is absolutley Beautiful!!!! I still can't believe that Victoria Street is in America. It look's like it should be somewhere in Europe. And remember, that Victoria is Spanish for Victory.
We Galaxy fans are hoping it lives up to it's name and soon! I can't wait to hear how it sounds in there. Initial reports are that the roof works great especially because of its shape. The LA Riot Squad's singing should be much loader than at the Rose Bowl, by far.
I'm sure that your presence will be known. The Riot Squad could be heard at the Rose Bowl. The roof will help project your chants. The Galaxy will be the envy of the league.
I hope it is.... I'm flying out to goto.... July 30 LA - Columbus Aug 2 - All-Star Game Aug 9 - LA - Columbus should make for a good trip, and i can't wait to win in your new ground!
Wow. What an awesome, awesome place for you guys. You guys must really appreciate it, I know I would. I can't wait to read all the stadium reviews from you all after the game. Hopefully I'll be able to make it in September to see the Fire play there. Congrats Galaxy fans!
I noticed that they have a couple Dave Matthews' concerts scheduled a couple days before a soccer game. I'm curious if they've designed it in a way that enables there to be concert floor seating without damaging the pitch? This seems like a key to getting more SSS' built in the USA... since the soccer and outdoor concert seasons overlap... and I'd guess that having the venues be dual purpose between soccer and concerts will increase the likelihood that many municipalities will be willing to build them.
I thought about that. Yep makes sense but it seemed a lot. Perhaps it's Sigi room. Those upper deck seats look like they may be really great for a view of the action.
Will there be a lineup scoreboard anywhere? It seems to have everything else. Hope it's filled Saturday for the viewing public/media. I love to be flying in for the KC game next week.
Why are the seats behind the goal so far away? You would think they would try and model the stadium as much as possible like the amazing stadiums in Europe where the fans are right on top of the action.
They aren't "very far away". Look at these images. http://www.benjaminbird.com/myweb3/glxcpractice.htm There is only a few feet behind the goals. Just enough room for Sigi to walk through and the players to warm up. A large percentage of the stadiums in England have about the same or more space behind the goals and in most stadiums in Europe, more. Go look at some images and report back.
Now add in where the advertising boards would be on the side, and you'll see it is very very close... Just be glad there is no running track!
Or a moat with crocodiles like that one stadium. "The fourth-division Steaua Nicolae Balcescu club faced league expulsion because of repeated incidents before coming up with a plan that should put some teeth into its security measures. "This is not a joke,'' club chairman Alexandra Cringus said. "We can get crocodiles easy enough and feed them on meat from the local abattoir.'' Abattoir being a slaughterhouse, not a sports bar. "The ditch is planned to be wide enough that no one could manage to jump over it,'' Cringus said. "Anyone who attempted to do so would have to deal with the crocs. "I think that the problem of fans running onto the pitch will be solved once and for all.''
