Houston looking to regain winning attitude
HOUSTON, TX

05/03/07

As you pass through the corridors of the University of Houston athletic facility on the way to Dynamo practice, you’ll see the school’s sports museum, where a bronze, life-size statue of Carl Lewis stares intently. Some of the names of the Cougar sports past are awe-inspiring: Elvin Hayes, Clyde Drexler, Hakeem Olajuwon, and Fred Couples, to name a few. All men who are respected because of one thing- they’re winners. Keep walking and you’ll see the future of Cougar athletics, as you pass by the cavernous weight rooms enclosed by walls of glass; and the massive indoor football field, where a young man sprints by, tethered to a weighted sled that skims the turf behind him.

Through the light at the end of the tunnel, you’ll step out into open air at the Carl Lewis track and field complex, and you’ll see the present- the Dynamo getting to work, albeit a squad just borrowing the U of H’s facilities.
