Interesting nuggets today. Especially on the GKing front. * Ring leaves Rochester after not playing??? After only having one day of training??? Whoa. * Vallow's quote is interesting in the Chi-Herald: "It's tons different,'' Vallow said. "Everything is just a little bit better. The touch on the ball is a little better, the speed of the play is a little faster, the finishes are a little cleaner and crisper and more accurate and harder. You add up all those little things, and it gets to be a big difference."
The KC Q&A is a good idea - but it comes off weak. Is he answering his own questions? Might be more intersting with a few mnore questions and someone actually from the Wizards answering them, even an asst. coach.
-seems a bit unprofessional of Ring. -3 games in four days for the sounders, arrgghh reminds you that the a-league is minor league. -looking forward to watching the Gals open their stadium in a few weeks.
*I tried Diet Vanilla Coke once and didn't care for it. *I see Ring's point, kinda, but don't agree with the way he handled it. *I didn't know Vallow was from Naperville. When I worked in Indiana, he wanted to play for the Blast because his parents lived in Carmel. Of course, we didn't sign him, and he went to Rochester and led the league in GAA. *Three in four doesn't happen all the time, even in the A-League, but I think this is the second time the Sounders have done it in a fortnight. But they do play back-to-back or two-in-three all the time.
I think it's worth noting that hidden in that Chicago/Hoffman Estates article is confirmation from the team that the city of Chicago has/will submit a serious proposal to the team for a stadium, along with Elgin, Hoffman Estates, Itasca, and Naperville, so far.
Yeah, the KC star has done this for the Royals and Chiefs for a while. I've often thought it was weak as well. Its only three questions. The beat writers should be at practice anyway, so just ask three quickies a week and insert them.
Chris Boyce is the wrong guy to be doing that section. I'm glad he does some Wizards stuff, but soccer is not one of his favorites. Plus he's kinda a club schill (note his excessively favorable writing about the Zardmeister after the opener). Bob Luder is a better soccer writer, and I think he's done those Q&A before.
I'm under the impression that the Q&A thing is only on the online edition. If this is so, I'm not really concerned with the quality of it.
Re: Re: Re: 5/22/03: Vanilla Coke On the 5th try (i was using the email address, BTW) i got through...I thought the "switch"the article referred to was the one to Dragon Stadium
USA TODAY article http://www.usatoday.com/sports/soccer/columnist/dure/2003-05-22-dure_x.htm "Predictions: Howard, the Open Cup and U.S.-Wales"
"comes off as weak" would be an apt phrase. "A complete waste of space" would be another. Q - How can KC keep a lead? A - Pretend it's still 0-0... Complaining about the lack of quality writing is a fav activity of this website for certain. The above is why. The only redeaming feature of the article is that KC is generally so blah in their quotes that Boyce may have had no choice but to not include them. More likely he blew it off entirely and didn't ask.
