First off...I won't be back here until about 30 minutes into the broadcast. So the folks in St. Louis are gonna have to do the PBP until then. Secondly...this is directed at Freestyle2000...would it be OK if you lock this thread as soon as the game is over and a new "POST-GAME" thread be started? If not I guess we can keep post-game stuff in here. Washington is without it's big guns today...Siri, Mrs. Nomar, and Abigail. I do believe Erin Regan is getting the nod to start in goal today. Well the game just came on the boob tube in the 30 some odd minute. Carolina are up 3-1 in the 35th minute!!! Goals by Floptop, Prinz, and Fettig for the Courage and a goal by Stealthwhacker. SOB!!! Just a minute ago the Freedom had a good chance to make it 3-2...I do believe it was the Aussie going towards the endline and laid off a cross to maybe one of the Twins on the backpost but it misses it's mark. Damnit We are now in the 37th minute and the Courage are awarded a freekick from about 25-30 yards out dead center....Fettig and Lehn over the ball...Fettig takes it....Prinz down in the box...she wants the PK but doesn't get the call...very suspect if you ask me...I'd have to watch the replay but she came crashing down hard. Oh damnit... It's 4-1 now in the 39th minute...Floptop with her second goal of the match...Floptop gets the ball at the top of the 18 and is able to juke and turn on I believe Carrie Moore and she gets it to the far post.
Oh no wonder why attendance is looking decent for this match...it's a Freedom/United doubleheader. 42nd minute and L-Squared cranks off a hard left footed shot from about 20 yards out that goes high. Damnit! Oh...nice to see Overbeck on the field. Little on the far side with a long cross into the six...she was trying to get it to her sister but Luckenbill able to snag the ball easily.
45th minute and Golebiowski with a sliding tackle on some Courage player...Courage get a freekick on the near side just outside the 18...Fettig sends it into the six...goes to Venus James...nada. WHEW!!!
On the first Floptop goal...where the hell was Regan!? 2nd half just started...Freedom going left to right. Can't tell if there are any subs yet. Jacqui making a run towards the 18...tries to lay off a pass to Kelly G. but intercepted. Little on near side with a cross...leads to a corner on the far side...Grubb to take it...sends to outside the six...nada...L-Squared heads it wide right.
48th minute and Grubb takes the corner...sends it to top of six to Golebiowski....nada. 50': Courage win a freekick from near their bench. So far five minutes into this half and it seems like the Freedom have been putting the pressure on. Jacqui foulded about 40 yards out or so....Grubb takes the freekick and serves the ball right to Jones who is at the top of the six but she heads it wide right. ARGH!!! 51': Courage on the attack...Prinz on far side sends the ball to someone....tries to head it in...easy save for Regan. Whew. 52': Grubb with a freekick from the midstripe...sends it inside the 18 but cleared by the Courage...Freedom able to maintain possession.... ARGH.....Golebiowski jukes two Courage players and in the 18 near the far endline and sends a left footed cross intended for one of the Twins but she is too damn short!
54': Freedom earn a throw-in near deep in Carlina territory....blah blah blah...nada...Courage having a hard time getting the ball out of the 18...Luckenbill finally able to snag the ball. 55': Freedom get a freekick on far sideline deep in Courage territory...Grubb to take it...sends it into the six where Luckenbill is able to leap and snag it. Courage on the attack now...no they ain't. The Freedom have really have had the majority of the possession so far but just can't find the back of the net. Couarge settling down and plotting out their attack...Carrie Moore able to snuff that one out at the top of the 18... 57': Boyd on near sideline sends a long pass to Floptop who is making a run in the 18...nada...she falls down outside the 18.
58': Zimny is down on the field. The trainer is looking at her left foot/ankle. Do athletic trainers really know what they are doing or are they just good at faking at knowing what they are doing? Zimny is now limping off the field with the trainer...she's coming off...don't know if she is going to be subbed out or not. Regan takes the freekick that is on the edge of the far side of the 18. 60': Zimny still getting treatment...Freedom playing with 10 right now...Stoekcer with a nice long run towards the 18 but Brooke O'Hanley able to disposses her before Stoecker gets into the 18. 61': Emmy Barr is booked for something. Courage with the freekick from about 40 yards out....Fettig takes it...uhhhh somehow the Freedom heads it over the endline...O'Hanley with the corner on the near side...Regan punches it out..Courage earn a throw in...now the Freedom on the counter...nope..Carolina with a throw in on far side.
SOB...Courage are now taking it to the Freedom in the 64th minute. No call on that?!!? Prinz falls down outside the 18 and ref says to play on...I'll have to see the replay. 66': McCullough in for O'Hanley. Beard in for Zimny. 66': Carolina throw-in near the Freedom bench....cross in from the far side and Prinz tries a bicycle kick from about 8 yards out..I think some other Courage player last touched the ball and sent that thing to the moon.
I soooo cannot wait to take a nap after this match. I am soooo damn tired. The GSAMC got one hell of a workout last night! IMNSHO the Courage have had the run of play in the past couple of mins. 69': Courage on the attack now...Beard dispossesed by Robin McCullough. Courage with a throw in deep in Freedom territory...whew...somehow the Courage committed a foul before Floptop is able to pounce on that. 70': Courage on the attack..ball sent to Floptop on the near side...offside. Laura Schott in for L-Squard. east coaster should be happy now. 71': Freedom with a throw in near the Courage bench. 72': Courage trying to build up something...nope...backpass to Luckenbill to reset.
73': Skylar fouls Floptop about 25 yards out...Fettig to take the freekick..sends it far post to Carla....Freedom goal kick. Seconds ago Prinz did something. Aw hell I don't know. I forgot already..but it was a dangerous play. Just glad Carolina didn't capitalize on that. Venus James jukes several Freedom defenders...takes a shot but it is cleared out. 75': Danielle Borgman in for Venus James. Aw hell...I think the Freedom are gonna lose this one...they haven't really been able to maintain possession for the past couple of minutes... GOAL!!!!!!!! Kelly G.!!!!! She makes it 4-2 in the 77th minute. *takes foot out of mouth*
77': Golebiowski's goal was a result of a horrendous clearance by a Courage player in front of the goal..she just kinda looped it to Kelly who was about 19 yards out and she sends it to the left post past a diving Luckenbill. Looks like Overbeck may play the entire match. You mothers (and fathers) out there can learn a good lesson from her. 79': Boyd sends the ball out...Freedom with a throw in deep in Courage territory...Emmy throws it in...Freedom with a throw-in in front of the Courage bench...goes out and Carolina with a throw-in.
80': HOLY CRAP...that McCullough chick had a clear shot at goal but when she takes her shot a Freedom player is able to deflect her shot. 81': SK8 in for Barr. Freedom on the attack....ehhh leads to a Courage throw in on the far side. Boyd making a run down the left side...uhhh don't know if that was meant as a cross or shot but her ball goes over the cross bar. Whew. 83': Aw screw it.
83': ARGH!!! Uhhh I think Carrie Moore was able to make a run down the left side and sent a cross into the 18 and Skylar is right at the PK spot but she was not able to get a foot on it. SOB!!!
88': SOB!! Borgman makes it 5-2. Borgman gets the ball outside of the 18 and is able to beat Carrie Moore and sends it to the far post.
89': Stoecker takes down Prinz about 25 yards out...Fettig kicks the ball into the wall. Jen Grubb is down on the field! Two minutes of stoppage time added. 2nd minute of stoppage time and Borgman with a throw in deep in Freedom territory... Schott is whistled offside but she is still going...both her and Luckenbill crash into each other inside the box. Both seem to be fine. Carrie Moore is named Hyundai Hero of the Game. WHAT!?!? She is on the losing side!!! Game over. Crap.
