I think 4 big Champions Leagues could be very interesting. Then you can have a FIFA Club World Cup with 8 clubs: 2 from Asia, 2 from Africa, 2 from Europe and 2 from America. I think these countries could sent 2 clubs for each 32 clubs tournament:

    Asian Champions League:

    Iraq
    Australia (Sydney FC, Melbourne Victory)
    Japan (Urawa Reds, Gamba Osaka)
    South Korea
    Thailand
    United Arab Emirates
    China
    Iran
    Uzbekistan
    Qatar
    Saudi Arabia
    Syria
    Vietnam
    Indonesia
    Malaysia
    India

    African Champions League:

South Africa (Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates)
    Egypt
    Nigeria
    Togo
    Ivory Coast
    Tunisia (Esperance, Club Africain)
    Congo-Kinshasa
    Cameroon
    Sudan
    Libya
    Morocco
    Tanzania
    Algeria
    Senegal
    Ghana
    Angola

    European Champions League:

    Italy
    Portugal
    England (Man Utd, Chelsea)
    France
    Turkey
    Spain (Real Madrid, Barcelona)
    Germany
    Czech Republic
    Norway
    Greece
    Scotland
    Russia
    Romania
    Netherlands
    Ukraine
    Denmark

    American Champions League:

    Brazil (Sao Paulo, Flamengo)
    Paraguay
    Argentina
    Mexico
    Chile
United States (DC United, Houston Dynamo)
    Uruguay
    Colombia
    Venezuela
    Costa Rica
    Peru
    Ecuador
    Honduras
    Bolivia
    Trinidad and Tobago
    Guatemala

Clubs from countries can try to get a place in the Champions League by performing well in the "UEFA Cup-like" tournament. I think this should be good for soccer development.

    Interesting to whom?...

There already exists club championships under different names on all continents. The only thing your proposal does is excluding a lot of countries.

One club from each country bar some exceptions? Yet MLS gets the same number as Spain and England and more than Italy, Germany, Argentina and Mexico. Pointless thread; inter country competition is fine how it is.

Bar some exceptions?...Removing 37 European countries is more than "some exceptions" in my book.

Ever heard of arguments instead of cursing? This is a discussion board, right?

No you don't understand what I mean. Don't remove those European countries, just the best 16 will sent to clubs to the Champions League! If other nations perform better, then they can sent clubs to the Champions League, that's how it also works today, so what's the problem? What I mean is: Merge Copa Libertadores and CONCACAF CL, and AFC CL and OFC CL. Then make it more easy by getting 2 teams from the best 16 countries. And don't split the AFC Champions League in a western and eastern division. If those teams play better teams, they can develop better. I think it's good for the quality of soccer for those teams. :)

No, it's not how it works today... today we have a flowing system, with the possibility to get in for everyone via qualification. You propose a sharp break between nation 16 and nation 17. And picking the 16 countrys from the back of your had instead of using the UEFA coefficiant didn't help your point, either.

Do you think that a Champions League match between an Uzbekistan team an a Malaysian team would make enough money for the travelling team to cover the cost of flying halfway around the world? There are reasons for the split...

Not to mention that it will be impossible to get the big English, Spanish and Italian clubs to give up CL berths, Platini already failed in that effort.

The continents are different in financial, political and footballing terms, what works for one, doesn't necessarily work for all others. And just because you make a 32-team-CL it doesn't mean that it is strong.

Why Sydney & Melbourne? Neither will be featuring in the '09 ACL!
