"How can they get it done in Frisco and we can't get it done in Jersey," asked MetroStars general manager Sakiewicz. "Ask our great leadership in this state that question."

    Nick getting gritty with it...

You can't blame the Fire and Peter Wilt for not trying. They just sent proposals to 75 different communities.
    Wow.

Not that I disagree, but the essentially sent a piece of direct marketing and are now hoping someone takes the bait.

The follow-up will be the key, otherwise this will wind up in the circular file.

Like I said, "Trying." :) Anyways, this does seem like what a recent college grad would do. And that is forwarding his/her resume to many different companies, hoping that one will have a taste.

    Midwest, the real one.
Yes, but while there are endless job applicants out there, there is only one Fire. Some communities might like the idea of a pro team in their area, and now have to show their cards. Because each city does not know what kind of proposals will be submitted by other cities, if they are serious about getting the team they must put their best foot forward to avoid being outbid. It is possible that only one city is interested and submits a great proposal because it thinks it is competing with many others.

His comments are another fine example of diplomacy in action.

We should have had him resolve the Iraq issue. Then again, we'd always be going to war in the next 60-90 days ;)

    RFPs

It was actually 100+ communities - a half dozen or so have been prequalified with serious interest over the last year or so. Another dozen have shown some interest. The rest are shots in the dark.

    I'm a little disappointed

that we have an overpaid lightwight for a GM -

    who believes a strategy of

    insults and arrogance

    is better than

    diplomacy and negotiation

i gotta find some way to buy the North Jersey Herald, or somehow support this paper. I think they have the best soccer writing in the country.
