YAY! Down with the COURAGE!!!! Man that crowd was umm (if you can't say anything nice...). Then again, all Courage crowds aren't that good. Good game played by the Freedom.

i got it : ) she is tough as nails though. fearless. it must have come from growing up in upstate ny winters (it's been hailing for 2 days now up here)
Attomic Elbow!! LMAO. Well our defense started out a bit flat but the picked it up in the end. There is nothing much to be picked out of this first game. Except for the fact that the hustle is there from our most important players. The only negative thing is Mia playing in mid. I don't like and I'll say it till i'm blue in the face; If she plays mid she spends more time in the defensive third and not as much in the attacking third. *edit* Thanks for those links Fear.
nope she aint! But good lord is Prinze easy to take down or what?! Grubb (or was it Abby) threw to the ground pretty easily.
Abigail was the one that threw down Prinz in the box when the Freedom were getting ready for the corner. ----- From the league site: The End of Mia's Day By Tim Nash Game report from the Courage site: http://www.carolinacourage.com/352093.html Game report from the Freedom site: http://www.washingtonfreedom.com/352091.html ----- Well this game wasn't a sellout.
It was in like the 101st minute. She got the ball drilled into her leg defending at the very end. Zimny went in for her for about maybe a minute.
Some initial thoughts from an eyewitness: - L^2 looked like a solid two-way player in midfield, both advancing the ball and in retaining/gaining possession. Assuming she still has some settling-in to do, she should do well for us. - Other than a couple of slip-ups (like that Jen/Siri thing), our defense looks very solid. Jen, Carrie, and Steffi made big plays on several occasions. Again, with some settling in, I think we're going to be very, very hard to score on. - Steffi had a big game in the midfield. It seems as if any ball she wanted she got, particularly toward the end of the game when Carolina was tiring. - I think Mia should be tested to see if she's actually the same species as the rest of us. Some of her ball-handling was just unbelievable. I mean, one minute she's facing away from the goal with the ball at her feet and someone on her, and the next nanosecond she's turned around, done some sort of dipsy-doodle so that the ball is still in front of her, and is heading at full speed for the goal. It ain't nacherl! We had a good Freedom contingent (three official buses' worth plus some accidentals, including a bus of lovely ladies in uniform from the Naval Academy - guess you saw them on ESPN at some point). It sounded as if we were noisier than the natives, but then I was in the middle of the section, so it was hard to say.

Wow. I loved the way Abby kinda flew through the air for her goal...or Mia's goal...whoever's goal it was, it was a loverly diving header. And somebody said Mia's shot wasn't that great. It was a beautifully placed ball. The keeper didn't flop her wrist. She just got caught on the near corner so Mia put it just out of her reach. Pretty nice shot in my opinion. You would think after last year Beergut could at least make her diving look remotely believable. Danielle Slaton and Sharolta Nonen look a loooot alike. Or could just be me... My favorite moment: "You alright?" "Yeah" "'kay" *atomic elbow* I think they almost got into trouble. Tsk. Tsk. Emmy Barr was fairly quiet in this one and Steffi needs to be more involved in the attack. Oh yeah...WAR STOECKER! Nice to see her back on the field. And Lori Lindsey looks just like the Little twins from behind. I was getting sooo confused.
at one point all i could see were blondes bouncing off birgit... jacqui, sky, lori.... ping! ping! ping!
Post-match article from the Durham Herald-Sun: More kicks for Mia By MAC HEFFNER From the Winston Salem Journal: Hamm leads Freedom over Courage Washington edges Carolina as Hamm's goal completes comeback in WUSA opener By Brian Surette
What exactly is Slaton doing with her foot? How dare she! LOL!! photo by Scott Bales/YCJ I too loved the WWF move Mia put on TR. That was hilarious! Good thing she was mic'd so they could show that. As for her goal being "lucky", well yeah, to some extent, but the skill it took to get to the position she was in to make the shot, well, that WASN'T luck. It was all the years of hard work she's put in to be abe to make moves like that. She got SKILZ. I lubs me some Mia!
Re: Re: 4/5 Washington at Carolina POST-GAME [R] Yeah, I mean even Nonen slammed her down on the turf and slammed her into the sideboards last year
That sounds almost homerish. She did have some sweet ass moves along that touchline. She juggled out of trouble a couple times.
Actually, I overheard Mia say after the game she really was trying to cross it, but got lucky and it went in. Hey, they were unlucky in the Final, so it was nice to see some good karma go her way.
Yes Mia did admit it was a cross not a shot but we'll take it. The best part to me was we beat Carolina without really playing a great game. As Jim said on TV, our control was not good at all the first 20 minutes or so, we improved a bit later and took our chances. Siri came up with some big plays.
Well, I got a little carried away, but Mia did seem to have one more "gear" than just about anyone else on the field in just about every area of the game, whether it was speed, moves, or ball control.
