The Forth Worth ST article is further proof Mike Jeffries must still completely heal from his aversion to young players.
Yeah, I know, what's Jeffries' problem? He starts a 21-year old in goal, a 20-year old at right mid and his three subs in a tie game Saturday against the reigning MLS champs were a pair of 19-year olds, Eddie Johnson and Jordan Stone, and 21-year old Brad Davis. He really needs to get over his aversion to young players! On Mike Jeffries roster there are seven American players who are young enough for a youth national team plus Joselito Vaca, 20, and Shavar Thomas, 22. That's nine players who are born in 81 or earlier, by far the most in MLS. I really don't think a commitment to youth is one of his problems. As for his quotes on Freddy, I really don't see a problem with someone saying he isn't ready to play in MLS right now. Maybe that's a statement about MLS, maybe that's a statement about the growth Freddy needs, maybe it's both, maybe he's wrong. But it's nice to see someone trumpeting caution on Adu instead of saying that a 13-year old should be playing in our first division and will be on the 06 World Cup team before he's ever played a pro game. I love Adu's game and I think in time he'll be all we hope he can be. But till then, there's no rush and I don't think it strains logic to think he might not be ready for MLS right now.
How is that? Because he doesn't think Adu is ready for Major League Soccer? I bet most MLS coaches, if not all, don't think Adu is ready to pay in MLS. Of course I'm speculating, but I bet they'd want to give him at least another year or two to get ready.
The Imperial "We" Adventures in editing in the Star-Ledger: I'm going to assumed the writer replaced "we" with "the Metros," as he fully realized Nick didn't outplay them at all. Later, COZ
And I like Franchino's quote: That was an amazing save...the ball was as far into the upper corner as it possibly could have been. Later, COZ
Thanks for all the work bringing us the news! Once again, MLS print coverage is so way up I don't remember where down is anymore. (I read the NY Times Print edition - Metros article back on page 10, but was a large articel w/ a nice pic. Given the quantity & quality of sporting events over the weekend, that's not too bad at all.)
Is there any truth to the rumor someone waved a hot dog in the general direction of that corner to get Zach to move that fast?
I liked Mastroeni's frankness about his team's poor performance (nice little dig on the lame coaching strategy!), but did the writer for the Denver paper even see the game? He listed Ramiro Corrales as out with a back strain (played 90 minutes) and Ronnie Ekelund out with an ankle injury (played 45 minutes).
No idea, but I'm sure Rimando could get to the upper left corner that quickly as well...if the ball was shot into the right corner. Later, COZ
that was a really in depth Adu article, nice job on his part. would love to be living near Dallas right now.
